Set compatibility mode[citation needed]
  1. Open AssassinsCreed_Dx10.exe compatibility settings.
  2. Enable compatibility mode for Windows Vista (SP2).

Steam version crashes on startup[edit]

The game will try to connect to the Ubisoft servers, which cannot be reached anymore.
Block the game's executable from accessing the internet with Windows Firewall:

- open the start menu, type, and open "Windows Defender Firewall with Advanced Security".

- Click on "Outbound Rules" on the left-hand side.

- Click "New Rule..." on the right-hand side>

- Select "Program" then click next, select "This program path" then click "Browse...", then go to the install directory of the game and select "AssassinsCreed_Dx10" then click "open", then click next, then select "Block the connection", then click next, select Domain, Private, and Public, then click next, type a name, then click "finish".[citation needed]

  1. Go to the installation folder.
  2. Swap the names of the files AssassinsCreed_Game and AssassinsCreed_Dx[version].

Edit your hosts file[citation needed]

  2. Open the file hosts with NotePad, and add the following IP addresses at the end:
Disable your internet connection[citation needed]
You have to do this every time before playing the game.

Controller support doesn't work correctly[edit]

Assassin's Creed and Assassin's Creed II have problems with button mapping and recognition.
Use x360ce[10]
A pre-made fix is available including support for vibration.
Does not support simultaneous trigger inputs. Disable "hold to lock" in the game's options menu to workaround this issue. Option is disabled by default.
  1. Download and extract the files to <path-to-game>
Use x360ce (Manual)[10]
A pre-made fix is available including support for vibration.
Achieves the same result as the pre-made fix.
Does not support simultaneous trigger inputs. Disable "hold to lock" in the game's options menu to workaround this issue. Option is disabled by default.
  1. Download the 32-bit (x86) version of x360ce and extract it to <path-to-game>.
  2. Run x360ce.exe and either configure your controller manually or allow the program to select a configuration. Select Save to save your changes.
  3. Close x360ce.exe and open the newly generated x360ce.ini file in <path-to-game>.
  4. Between [Options] and [Mappings] add, or replace, the following:
  5. Save and close the file.
  6. The controller should now function correctly, but additional steps are required to enable vibration.
  7. Open x360ce.exe and select the active controller (Controller 1 by default) if necessary.
  8. Select the Advanced tab and enable Force Feedback Pass Through.
  9. Select the Force Feedback tab and enable Enable Force Feedback.
  10. Click Save and close the application.

Game always starts up in windowed mode[edit]

By default, the game should run in fullscreen mode. However, occasionally, the game forces itself into windowed mode.
Return to fullscreen mode with Alt+ Enter[citation needed]
Use the -fullscreen command line argument[citation needed]

Crash when installed in a Storage Space[edit]

The game will refuse to run when installed on a drive which is managed by a Storage Space on Windows 8 and later.
Re-installing the Game on a drive that is not a Storage Space will fix this issue[citation needed]

Leap of Faith jumps result in death[edit]

In addition to visual glitches (such as twitching robes), playing with more than 60 FPS causes the Leap of Faith jumps to not work correctly, leading to the player characters death upon impact.
Enable Vsync in the graphics settings or force it in the graphics card control panel[11]
Cap game's framerate to 60FPS
  1. See the Frame rate glossary page for ways to limit FPS.

Assassin's Creed Overhaul[edit]

Updates most of the textures and particle effects in-game with a mix of Assassin's Creed Revelations textures and custom textures. If there are issues with running or installing the mod, making the game's executable large address aware might fix them.[12][13]

Better lighting. Install by copying the contents of AC1 ReShade in the main folder of the game. (ReShade and OpenTexMod are both mutually exclusive. They don't run together by default. To run ReShade together with the Overhaul mod you have to either use TexMod, or to use OpenTexMod you need ENBInjector)[14][15][16]
