PCGamingWiki Account

On March 29, 2020 PCGamingWiki transitioned over to using a single sign-on (SSO) solution to bridge the wiki and community sites and accounts using a new unified account referred to as the PCGW Account. Instead of having two separate accounts with two separate passwords (and potentially usernames), your username and password is now shared between both sites through the PCGW Account. This was provided as an alternative solution for a few months earlier, but on this day the ability to sign in using the old separate accounts of the wiki and community sites were disabled and all users are now required to create a new PCGW Account and sign in using that account in the future.

If you do not already have a PCGW Account you will have to create one here. Note that e-mail verification is required and used to link existing accounts so be sure to type the e-mail address correctly!

  • The PCGW Account will automatically link up with your existing account(s) on either site if the provided e-mail address matches an existing account.
  • If you did not have an existing account on either the wiki or community site, a new profile will automatically be created for you when you sign in using the PCGW Account.

Please note that the verification e-mail will be sent from account@pcgamingwiki.com and might arrive to the junk folder of your mailbox.

General information

PCGW Account management page

I already have an account to the wiki and/or community site(s). Do I still need to sign up for a PCGW Account?

Yes, if you do not already have a PCGW Account you will have to create one. Note that the ability to create a PCGW Account has been available for a few months now during its testing phase, so some users might already have a PCGW Account.

I would like to change the e-mail address, name, or password for my PCGW Account

Please sign in to the account management site where those options are available.

I would like to change the username for my PCGW Account

Please sign in to the account management site where that option is available.

I prefer to sign in using my old account. Is this still possible?

No, this is no longer possible as that functionality has been disabled. The new PCGW Account will automatically link up with your existing account(s) on either site if the provided e-mail address matches an existing account.

Errors that may occur

I cannot create an account due to an unexpected error

Full error message: Unexpected error when handling authentication request to identity provider

When trying to create a new account, this can occur if there is any non-Latin characters or letters with diacritics on them in any of the text fields (e.g. firstname/lastname). Please remove any such characters and the registration will proceed.

I created a PCGW Account but I am unable to access my old account through it on one (or both) of the sites.

This is usually due to some data not correlating properly between the old account(s) and the new unified account. Please send an e-mail to help@pcgamingwiki.com where your ticket will be generated and looked at by the server administrator.

I cannot sign in on the wiki as the authentication aborted for security reasons

This typically means the username you chose already exists on the wiki, but is registered to a different mail address. There are two different methods of solving this issue:

  • The easier option is to change your SSO username to something that will not conflict with the existing wiki account any longer. You can do so over on the account management site where that option is available. After changing the username you will be able to access the wiki as a new wiki account will be created that matches your updated username.
  • The harder option requires knowing the password that the old wiki account had
    1. Open the incognito/private mode of the web browser.
    2. Browse to https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Special:ChangeEmail
    3. Sign in using the old wiki username and your old local wiki password.
      • If you know that another mail address was registered on the old account and you still have access to that mailbox you can also click on Forgot your password? to generate a password reset mail for the old account.
    4. If the sign-in was successful you should be faced with the option to change the mail address on the account. Set the correct mail address here that you used for the newer SSO account.
    5. After you have made the change you should be able to access the wiki account using the unified SSO account as both will now have a matching mail address.

I cannot sign in on the wiki due to an invalid username?!

This occurs due to a bug in our backend that allows special characters in the SSO username (for example the @ character) which the wiki itself does not support. Please sign in to the account management site where you will have the option to change your username. After the username has been stripped of any special characters you will be able to sign in to the wiki successfully.

The forgotten password e-mail never arrives

Please note that the forgotten password e-mail will be sent from noreply@account.pcgamingwiki.com and might arrive to the junk folder of your mailbox.

The Forgot password option will always claim that an e-mail with further instructions have been sent, regardless of whether an account with the specified username or e-mail exists. This design is for security purposes as it prevents revealing usernames and e-mail addresses that might be in use by users to other parties.

If you do not receive the e-mail at all, not even in the junk folder of your mailbox, please create an account with the relevant e-mail address. In doing so any existing wiki and community accounts with the same mail address will automatically link up with the new account.

The verification e-mail did not arrive in time. How do I generate a new verification link?

Please use the Forgot Password option on the account management site and change password of your account. In the process a new verification e-mail will be sent to your e-mail address.

Please note that the verification e-mail will be sent from account@pcgamingwiki.com and might arrive to the junk folder of your mailbox.
