PCGamingWiki:Changelog

From PCGamingWiki, the wiki about fixing PC games
Date Changes
February 7, 2024 Added SafeDiscShim to the list of acceptable copyright protection and fixes bypasses.
February 7, 2024 After some extensive refreshing of all the game articles on the site, the new Input Cargo repalcement table has finally been swapped in and the new parameters made queryable:
  • Playstation_controller_support - String
  • Playstation_prompts - String
  • Playstation_light_bar_support - String
  • DualSense_adaptive_trigger_support - String
  • DualSense_haptic_feedback_support - String
  • PlayStation_controller_models - List (,) of String
  • Playstation_connection_modes - List (,) of String
For signed in users, the new fields can also be explored through the Drilldown tool.
January 18, 2024 The {{Input}} template got a few updates today! See the Editing Guide for the details of each.
  • New Playstation controller fields was added, used to specify supported models (see {{Input/ps_controllers}} for acceptable values) and adaptive trigger and haptics (DualSense features) support.
    • The playstation connection modes (previously: dualshock 4 modes) got an enforcement filter template to only accept specific values. See {{Input/ps connections}} for acceptable values.
  • A new digital movement supported field was added to indicate if the game is playable using just digital movement controls on controllers (i.e. without using an analog stick).
December 7, 2023 Added auto-populated HDR and config notes to Unreal Engine 5 games, to mirror Unreal Engine 4 games.
November 19, 2023 Added Taiwanese to {{L10n/switch}}.
October 30, 2023 Clarified in the Editing Guide that the {{Video|ray tracing}} parameter can be used for software ray tracing as well, though marked as limited if hardware ray tracing is not present.
October 17, 2023 #1 Created the {{VR headset}} template.

#2 Added four languages to {{L10n/switch}}: Elfdalian, Lao, Limburgish, & Yakut
October 7, 2023 A new section covering paid software have been added to the wiki policy:
  • Our game articles should not cover mods, utilities, or third-party addons which require payment or a subscription (i.e. Patreon or equivalent) of some kind. The PCGamingWiki staff may on rare occasions make an exception for a specific game or mod, utility, or addon if an official proposal is raised and approved.
October 3, 2023 Added a new page to the editing guide: Advanced editing techniques! This is intended to be a place for more advanced editing tips and tricks to be collected and used/shared as a cheat sheet for advanced editors. First up is a special mention of the underused {{DisplayTemporarily}} template, as well as how to work around limitations in using preformatted text with numbered lists (e.g. codeblocks in fixboxes).
September 29, 2023 Added auto-populated glossary link to the {{Video}} high-fidelity upscaling notes.
September 23, 2023 Improved the phrasing of true and limited in the Section table legend of the editing guide to clarify a few specific scenarios where those options should be used.
September 15, 2023 #1 Updated Metacritic links to match the site's new format, e.g. https://www.metacritic.com/game/baldurs-gate-3/critic-reviews/?platform=pc.

#2 Added <onlyinclude> tags to sample article Series template. This ensures that only the seriesbox will be inserted into game articles. (Introductions and other content outside <onlyinclude> will be omitted from game articles.)
July 20, 2023 A global CSS change was made to allow table headers thead belonging to a table with .pcgwikitable and .sortable (both required) CSS classes to "stick" to the top of the page while scrolling. This change primarily affects custom tables used throughout the site, such as ReShade and UPK Explorer, and does not affect the main tables on game articles.
June 22, 2023 {{Stub}} and {{Cleanup}} was changed to allow their use on all namespaces except for the User, Template, PCGamingWiki, Project, MediaWiki namespaces (and their corresponding talk namespaces). This should allow pages on other namespaces than the main namespace to also be populated in the Stub resp. Pages needing cleanup categories.
June 21, 2023 A few mistakes snuck in on the changed {{VR support}} template that necessitated a new recreation of the table which have now finished. The updated table is now live and can be queried through Cargo.
June 15, 2023 The {{VR support}} template was updated to do away with headset specific parameters and replace them with API/SDK based rows instead.
  • steamvr replaces htc vive and oculusvr replaces oculus rift, though backwards compatibility is retained.
  • A new openxr parameter was also added.
  • Parameters for tracking was added: body tracking, hand tracking, face tracking, and eye tracking.
Due to the major changes to the template, a full recreation of the backend Cargo table is also required before the new changes can be queried through the API.
May 28, 2023 Added new Farming and Art genre taxonomies.
May 3, 2023 Added support for a specific Mac App Store row to the Game data rows.
April 23, 2023 {{Input}} was updated to allow the Mouse Y-axis inversion field to be set to always on.
April 21 - 23, 2023 Planned maintenance on getting the Cargo backend up-to-date with the last few months additions to the templates:

Changes to the API Cargo table:

  • Added Linux_68k_app
  • Added Mac_OS_68K_app
  • Added Mac_OS_PowerPC_app
  • Removed Shader_Model_versions

Changes to the Audio Cargo table:

  • Added Royalty_free_audio
  • Renamed from Audio_settings to Audio

Changes to the VR_support Cargo table:

  • Added Forte_VFX1

Changes to the Video Cargo table:

  • Added Upscaling
April 23 update: The maintenance took awhile longer than planned due to some pages not recreating all of their Cargo data properly, causing them to be missing from various automated lists on the site, but the issue should now be resolved.
April 20, 2023 Removed {{Save game cloud syncing}} discord and discord notes parameters from the sample articles and the editor toolbar. These parameters can still be manually added to articles as needed.
March 20, 2023 #1 Added rows for Mac OS Classic and for Linux Motorola 68K in {{API}}. If readers spot any oddities with the rows, they can contact the PCGamingWiki Discord server about them.

#2 Updated {{DRM}} SecuROM links. {{DRM|SecuROM}} previously linked to Digital rights management (DRM), but now links directly to SecuROM.

#3 Added the 27 remaining languages (+ 2 aliases) supported by Steam's search engine pages to {{L10n/switch}}.
March 19, 2023 Clarified in the Editing Guide and template documentation that {{File}}, {{Folder}}, and {{Registry}} should not be used in game data rows.
March 15, 2023 Added support for a fifth parameter to {{Game data/config}} and {{Game data/saves}}.
March 14, 2023 Added a "Handling new and upcoming games" section to the Wiki policy to set up edit priority orders for new or upcoming games.
March 9, 2023 Added the Forte VFX1 headset to {{VR support}}; added Khmer, Ryukyuan, Swahili, and Zulu to {{L10n/switch}}.
March 3, 2023 Added Occitan and Silesian to {{L10n/switch}}.
February 18, 2023 $wgJpegQuality parameter was added to the config and set to 95. This means new JPEG thumbnails will be generated using a 95% quality level, instead of the default 80% quality. This should take care of most artifacting otherwise present in thumbnails. The change is not applied retroactively, so only new uploads will have the change applied for them.
February 14, 2023 A new exception was added to the wiki policy regarding bypassing DRM protections in games:
January 10, 2023 The {{Registry}} shorthand has been created as well.
January 6, 2023 A separate {{Folder}} shorthand template has been created to apply the folder alternate type of {{File}}. This is intended for use with folder and folder paths as it shows a folder icon instead of a file icon.
  • {{File|Readme.txt}} appears as Readme.txt
  • {{File|{{p|game}}\Readme.txt}} appears as <path-to-game>\Readme.txt
  • {{Folder|Logs}} appears as Logs
  • {{Folder|{{p|game}}\Logs}} appears as <path-to-game>\Logs
January 5, 2023 {{File}} has been separated from {{Code}} to allow for individual styling. This is to encourage proper use of {{File}} for when files/filenames are being mentioned. The styling is subject to change and we might eventually extend it further to add custom styling for different types of files or such.
December 12, 2022 Email notifications for changes to watched pages were enabled today. This setting can be controlled in Special:Preferences -> User profile -> Email options (at the bottom). This is currently being tested, and we might adjust the default user options to disable this feature by default (seems to be enabled by default for now).
December 4, 2022 Anonymous edits have been disabled on the wiki. Various register/login links and pages have been updated to account for the new authentication flow as well. The user group permissions have been updated and many permissions have been restricted and now requires 3 edits and an account of at least 6 hours before being granted to new users.
December 1, 2022 Further changes and clarifications of how to fill out the {{API|direct3d versions}} parameter in the Editing Guide by introducing a whole new section on the topic. Various minor changes to the rest of the page as well to clarify or fix up some things.
November 27, 2022 shader model parameters of {{API}} was marked as obsolete today and removed from the editing guide and sample articles. This was because of its unreliable nature, with games often providing fallbacks automatically to older versions, and irrelevance in modern gaming landscape. Support for the parameters may or may not be removed entirely in the future.
November 18, 2022 Minor changes were made to the Wikitext editor today.
November 9, 2022 Some more stuff was restored today:
  • Restored auto-populated Unity engine note below the Video table, as well as the Unreal Engine 4 auto-populated HDR note which were lost in the data loss.
  • Also restored the 'Edit/Source', 'History', 'Purge cache' actions to the Tools menu of the site, though the Edit/Source action is only visible for signed in users. This is to enable users who wants it to more easily get around on mobile devices.
November 6, 2022 All backend/template changes from October has been lost, and requires recreating from scratch. We will try and re-implement most of them under the coming days. Please see this image of the various changes that were lost and needs to be re-implemented.

Subscription gaming service is first out and have been restored to the {{Monetization}} table. This is intended for monthly gaming subscription services like EA Play and PC Game Pass (and not for monthly bundles like Amazon Prime Gaming or Humble Choice). Please see the category/glossary page for further details.

{{Video}} was updated to support the upscaling and upscaling tech parameters used to list supported high-fidelity upscaling solutions. {{Audio}} was also updated to support the royalty free audio parameter used to track the availability of streamer-friendly audio in games.

November 5, 2022 Catastrophic corruption event affects the site, forcing a restore to an older backup from October 8th, see 2022 Data Loss for more information.
September 28, 2022 Decoupled the lists populated on the company pages from the infobox by using the listgames=false parameter of {{Infobox company}}, and allows for selectively include these elsewhere on the page by manually calling {{Infobox company/query}}.
September 24, 2022 Added Portuguese - Portugal as a synonym to {{L10n/switch}} so it can be used in the localization section as well.
September 19, 2022 The category hierarchy starting from the root Top category and below has been changed slightly to move related project and maintenance categories out from the root category and into a more appropriate subcategory. A new subcategory, Operating systems now hold all OSes the wiki covers. Glossary categories were also updated to {{Category TOC}} to provide a useful navigation.
September 18, 2022 {{Infobox company}} was fixed so that the "engines created" query worked for companies with spaces in their name. The {{Tocbox}} was also added to the template so it is automatically populated on company pages. The template that controls the list of games on engine pages, {{Infobox engine/ti}}, was capped to 800px max-width to prevent it from appearing below the infobox on engine pages.
September 17, 2022 A quick link to the wiki and files polices were added to the main navigation, as well as the maintenance page.
September 11, 2022 #1 Changes were made to {{DRM}} to allow it to populate the Cargo Store_DRM column of the Availability table if the {{DRM}} call is used in the relevant availability row. This allows creating auto-populated lists containing third-party DRMs used only for a specific store front. Existing DRM lists are not expected to be negatively affected by the change.

#2 The GOG and Steam redirect endpoints have been fixed up, so now the following links (found on external sites) will work properly again:

The GOG forum and WineHQ redirect endpoints are not functioning due to Cargo not tracking the necessary data, and as of right now since the use of those redirection endpoints are unknown, it is questionable if they will be restored to working order.
September 5, 2022 The long expected infrastructure upgrade on the wiki was performed today, and various issues that occurred as a result is expected to be fixed up over the next couple of days. These involves everything from broken MediaWiki extensions, broken custom JavaScript functionality, incorrect CSS styling, etc.
July 11, 2022 {{DRM}} and {{Availability/DRM}} has been updated to support Epic Online Services as well as to allow for Epic Games Store as a synonym for Epic Games Launcher. Please note that Epic Online Service is handled separately from Epic Games Store/Launcher, as EOS allows for a DRM auth implementation that is separate from the Epic Games Store/Launcher.
July 9, 2022 All {{Infobox game/row/taxonomy/...}} have been updated to exclude articles from other namespaces than the main one from being assigned to categories.
July 6, 2022 {{Infobox software}} was updated to support official site parameter from {{Infobox game}}.
June 27, 2022 The {{Monetization}} parameter one-time purchase was renamed to one-time game purchase with a slight change of definition to make it more as an alternative to freeware/free-to-play, see Category:One-time game purchase.
  • New Definition: Games which requires an upfront purchase to access.
  • New Note 1: This is the base monetization used for most games and is in modern times often combined with additional monetization.
  • New Note 2: This is in contrast with Freeware and Free-to-play where the game can be accessed without a purchase.

This change was implemented after editors on the Discord server raised confusion of the earlier definition and how to use it.

All pages that made use of the earlier definition have been moved over to the new one.
June 20, 2022 Couple of changes today:
  • Added a new connection method parameter to {{Infobox controller}} used to specify the supported connection method for the controller on PCs.
  • Added support for {{DLC}} section being hidden if it does not include any actual rows. Note that if taxonomy rows requires the section, an info bullet will be shown instead.
  • Added one-time purchase parameter to {{Monetization}} template for use on more traditional games that has no additional monetization beyond the purchase of the game. The editing guide, sample article, and base templates have been updated accordingly.
  • Also clarified the "Modifications" sections on the Sample article, and that only essential goes under Essential improvements header — the rest goes below Other information.
May 23, 2022 A few changes today:
  • Expanded {{Video}} to automatically add a link the HDR glossary page for D3D9, D3D10, and OpenGL games when the field is not defined or set to false/unknown.
May 11, 2022 Updated {{Video}} to automatically add a link the HDR glossary page for D3D11 and D3D12 games when the field is set to false.
April 22, 2022 Updated {{API/switch Direct3D}} to support 9Ex to indicate the use of Direct3D 9Ex.
March 19, 2022 Updated {{L10n/switch}} to support a vaster variety of languages for the Localizations table.[1]
February 13, 2022 Added {{Tocbox}} to {{Infobox engine}}.
October 21, 2021 Overhauled handling for automated "Warnings" on game pages:
  • Rebuilt {{Warnings}} to generate all applicable warnings from a single Cargo query (made in {{Infobox game}}) instead of making multiple Cargo queries in {{Warnings}}.
  • Fixed non-English warning displaying for English games when Cargo page data is stale/missing (non-English games with stale/missing page data will show no warning).
  • Added a new note shown when a non-English game has an English fan translation available.
October 2, 2021 Migrated {{Infobox company}} and {{Infobox engine}} to use Cargo instead of Semantic MediaWiki. Fixed subsidiaries not showing up for {{Infobox company}}. These changes should be mostly seamless/invisible.
September 4, 2021 Overhaul of {{Infobox game}} templates:
August 27, 2021 Overhaul of template validity checks/placeholders:
June 30, 2021 {{Infobox game/row/reception}} have been updated to allow the IGDB variable to be defined even if a rating is omitted. This means that the separate igdb= parameter only needs to be used in situations where a {{Infobox game/row/reception|IGDB}} template call is missing or it does not contain a link to the IGDB page.
May 7, 2021 {{API}} was updated to support new Windows/Linux ARM parameters. The old macos arm notes parameter have been made obsolete, though it is still supported in the backend for compatibility purposes. The macOS (ARM) row of the "Technical specs" section have been removed and replaced with an ARM column in the "Executable" section instead.

Misc changes:

  • Redid the automatic population of the DOSBox game data/saves note field slightly since it apparently did not appear at all.
  • {{Input}} now uses {{Tickcross-a-na}} for Controller Y-axis inversion instead of {{Tickcross-na}}. This allows the use of the always on state.
April 29, 2021 {{Tickcross-a}}, {{Tickcross-a-na}}, and {{Tickcross-a-nr}} was all updated to actually set 'always on' to the properties they were used for. Seems that up until now they did not actually set that property.
April 17, 2021 general midi audio related parameters was added to {{Audio}}.
December 20, 2020 DRM-free* (note the wildcard * ) was added as an acceptable DRM to use in the availability table.
  • This allows for the differentiation between a regular DRM-free state and a DRM-free* state on rows such as GOG, developer website, etc.
  • On the rows of digital distributions where a wildcard already applies (Steam, Origin, etc), this is just a synonym for the existing DRM-free state.
December 15, 2020 {{Tickcross-l-nohack}} was created and added to the Steam row of {{Save game cloud syncing}}. This basically adds the limited state available for Steam Cloud (for now) to document situations where the support is limited in some way, such as not respecting a relocated Documents or Saved Games folder on Windows.
November 28, 2020 The {{Video}} table, editing guide, and sample articles was updated with two new ray tracing based parameters that populates the new Property:Ray tracing.

Note that there's currently no glossary page, but as the Glossary namespace is editable for everyone, feel free to create Glossary:Ray tracing (RT) and add information concerning ray tracing.

The new parameters of the Video table is as follows:

|ray tracing =
|ray tracing notes =
November 19, 2020 The {{API}} table, editing guide, and sample articles was updated with two new macOS (ARM)-based parameters that populates the new Property:MacOS ARM app.

Due to being the fastest and easiest way to implement the new parameters, they are currently shown in the Technical specs' table, and not the Executable table. This decision was taken after considering the state of the Executable table, its underlying logic and how it ties into other parts of the articles (e.g. {{Infobox game}}), and the current nature of ARM-based macOS. The implementation might eventually change, but for now the parameters are available and can be used.

The new parameters of the API table is as follows:

|macos arm app =
|macos arm notes =
November 14, 2020 Various minor changes over the last few days:
  • A few more non-editing related pages have been moved over to having their header sections hidden.
  • Uplay icon in availability table was changed from blue to black to mirror their most commonly used icon.
  • Series overall table width as well as column widths was changed to bring the tables more in line with the rest. The most noticeable difference being that the game logos are a bit larger than before.
  • Updates/clarifications made to various places in the editing guide.
November 2, 2020 Various PCGW misc pages below the Community and About menus have had their header sections hidden to create a more minimal overall page. This follows in the footsteps of PCGamingWiki:Discord and PCGamingWiki:Donate which have already had this design for years now.
November 1, 2020 Various {{Infobox company}} related templates have been updated to get the auto-populated tables in line in regards to their width and the data they showcase. Along these changes there have been a few removals of columns from some tables:
  • All 'ported to' tables have had their "First release" column removed, as such information does not really pertain to the purpose of those tables. The tables retain their 'release date OS' column, however.
  • Linux and OS X 'ported to' tables where brought in line with the rest of the 'ported to' tables. This means the removal of the 64-bit support column for OS X as well as the removal of the XDG column for Linux. The data of both of these columns can still be found in the game articles themselves.
October 31, 2020 {{Infobox company}} was updated with an automated populated Subsidiaries field which is populated by the use of |parent=XXXX on the company pages of the subsidiaries. See Company:Ubisoft and Company:Ubisoft Barcelona as examples.
  • Note that due to the long-time issue with Semantic MediaWiki properties not being enabled or populated on custom namespaces such as Company, Engine, and Series which was (hopefully) solved yesterday, the population of this field will take a few days/weeks as the backend goes through all existing company pages and populates the necessary Semantic MediaWiki property Property:Parent company.
October 30, 2020 Uplay related property assignments are being removed as the new properties are sufficiently populated by now.

Move towards the future Origin > EA Desktop renaming continues, with duplicate (similar to how Uplay > Ubisoft Connect was handled) properties being populated in the foreseeable future. In the backend this means that various properties might now be named EA Desktop or related, even though *technically* the name is not final yet. The prolonged move is necessary since the two clients are, right now, separate, and EA Desktop does not as of this moment include all games that Origin includes.

The final visual move to the new branding will be made when EA Desktop goes fully live and can act as a full replacement of Origin for all games on the platform.
October 27-28, 2020 Various changes have begun to be implemented. Many of these are an ongoing process, and work will be stretched over multiple days or sometimes weeks to ensure as little impact on various PCGW components as possible (lists, lookups, etc).
  • Due to Ubisoft's rebranding of Uplay to Ubisoft Connect work have begun to transition properties and templates over to the new naming scheme. Alongside this is a change from referring to the store as Uplay in favor of Ubisoft Store to more accurately reflect its official name.
  • On a similar note, but reversed, work have begun to transition Epic Games Store over to Epic Games Launcher where appropriate -- most importantly in the {{Save game cloud syncing}} template.
  • Future changes to account for EA's rebranding of Origin over to EA Desktop might also be implemented soon, with backend changes (properties, etc) being implemented before any visual changes.
October 24, 2020 {{Fixbox}} was updated to support a collapsed state if the |collapsed parameter is added.

Example:

{{Fixbox|description=Instructions|ref=<ref>{{Refcheck|user=Aemony|date=2020-10-24|comment=}}</ref>|collapsed=yes|fix=
# Do stuff.
}}
October 23, 2020 Alerts and Notices icons were restored so that functionality was not lost in the transition. Other minor bug fixes were also implemented.
October 22, 2020 Some minor changes:
  • {{Citation needed}}, {{Dubious}} and {{Note}} were added to the Reference menu of the editor.
  • Multiple missing domains populated by core templates where also added to the CAPTCHA whitelist, such as HowLongToBeat, IGDB, Metacritic, OpenCritic, IsThereAnyDeal, ProtonDB, and Bethesda.net. Some entries were also updated to reflect their new format, such as Battle.net, Discord, Epic Games Store, macOS App Store, and Oculus Store.
October 21, 2020 Multiple changes were made over the day:
  • New links were either added to the horizontal menu or moved to a new category:
    • Explore > Lists
    • Explore > Troubleshooting guide
    • Editing > Projects
    • Community > Assignments (previously Editing)
    • Community > PCGW Account (previously About)
    • Community > Other communities
  • The max width on #masthead was reduced to 1200px, narrowing the main content area to below its previous size of about 1460px.
  • The new sidebar based table of contents ({{Tocbox}} for short) has also been introduced and will be positioned on the right sidebar below the infobox or seriesbox. If a seriesbox is populated below the table of contents, the page needs to be moved over to defining the series as part of {{Infobox game/row/taxonomy/series}} of the {{Infobox game}} template.
The sidebar TOC is slowly rolling out for older pages as the cached versions of pages are purged during the next couple of days. To force a page to update and receive the new TOC, click on More in the top right corner of the page followed by the Purge cache option.
  • Various bug fixes and improvements were implemented to account for the new features and functionality of the last two days.
October 20, 2020 The horizontal navigation was merged from the staging site to the live site, moving the main navigational menu from the side to the top of the page. As a result of this change the quick links/icons to the left of the user menu in the top right corner have been removed for now.
September 4, 2020 Further clarifications have been made today to the wiki policy regarding the bypass of copyright protection, this time in regards to the mention of how to unlock or access some game DLCs on the wiki.
August 24, 2020 The wiki policy regarding the bypass of copyright protection in regards to fixes have been slightly changed today to allow for some information pertaining to three specific tools to be mentioned on the wiki or community site. Overall the policy remains the same, but these exceptions were implemented to achieve two goals:
  • Allow modders to mention a certain deobfuscation tool by name if it is required to apply the specific fix.
  • Enable easier alternative solutions to get games using one of two specific DRM solutions working on modern systems.
August 16, 2020 Following in the steps of the last change, TriDef 3D and iZ3D related parameters and information have been removed from the Editing Guide, Sample article, as well as the documentation for {{VR support}}. For historical reference and compatibility for the games that makes use of them, no change was made to the template itself. On another note, {{VR support}} was also updated to mirror the tracked motion controllers notes as entered in the {{Input}} section. The Editing Guide was also updated to clarify that Tracked motion controllers and Traditional controller fields are filled out through the {{Input}} section.
July 30, 2020 As GameGrade3D (GG3D) have returned a HTTP 404 for a while now the related classification parameters have been removed from the Editing Guide, Sample article, as well as the documentation for {{VR support}}. For historical reference and compatibility for the games that makes use of them, no change was made to the template itself.
July 27, 2020 {{Availability/row}} was updated to support a new seventh parameter that is used to set the game as being unavailable for purchase on a platform. The intention is to retain the availability rows for historical references if the product becomes unavailable for purchase on said platform, so PCGamingWiki does not miss out on critical information contained within (e.g. DRM, notes, that are still applicable to existing owners).
The parameter is easily used by adding | unavailable to the end of the row, after the OS parameter but before the closing }} tag, like this:
{{Availability/row| Origin | fifa-14 | Origin | Random note here | | Windows | unavailable }}
  • See Prey for a live example.
The parameter is still a work in progress, and what remains is to decide how the Available from property is affected by the change as many lists are using that property to look up whether a game is available on a platform or not.
July 24, 2020 Added auto-collapse functionality to {{DLC}} and {{DLC/row}} that automatically collapses the table if more than 10 rows are added to the table. Tables containing less than 10 rows will not be collapsible. Also changed the behavior of {{Monetization}} and {{Microtransactions}} tables to be shown by default with an optional collapsible parameter |collapsed=yes that can be added as the editor's discretion.
July 11, 2020 Work on improving taxonomy continues, with a new core glossary parameter named name abbr added to allow glossary pages to set an override in how the term is displayed when transcluded unto a page. This will later be used to improve default {{Introduction}} states when added automatically. Right now, there is two types of abbreviation links available to use:
  • {{Glossary:Sci-fi}} results typically in lowercase transclusion for use in written text: sci-fi
  • {{Glossary:Sci-fi|uc}} results in mirroring the defined name of the term, aka recognizing uppercases: Sci-fi
  • The new override parameter basically overrides {{Glossary:Sci-fi}} for those few select terms that use it. For example, where {{Glossary:FPS}} would previously be disabled in lowercase (per bullet point #1), it will now be displayed in uppercase instead: FPS
June 23, 2020 Added error handling to all taxonomy rows as well as tidied up and changed various things related to the categories and their glossary pages. Work continues to tidy the taxonomy pages up and the intention is to move the current "glossary" pages (which only holds the glossary definition and no actual content) over to the template namespace to facilitate calling the appropriate information through {{Ultra-widescreen}}, like so: ultra-widescreen
June 6, 2020 Reworked {{Seriesbox}} and {{Seriesbox/row}} to support handling collapsible state based on the number of rows as well as behave slightly differently. Along with this change the mobile-specific collapse-by-default custom solution was for now disabled as it conflicted with the rest of the solution. On another note, the fix to anchor links being misaligned was reverted as it misfired and caused the :first-child of some tables to be differently from the rest. CSS3's pseudo-class selectors still do not see the full widespread support necessary to solve this through CSS3, although a proper jQuery + CSS based fix is available in newer MediaWiki main versions, see T42792 and Change 424165.
June 4, 2020 Added auto-handling of adding {{Series}} based on specified series taxonomy row. The first specified series now gets automatically included below the infobox. Note that this is not the final revision of the implementation as a future change will add auto-collapsing functionality to the box based on how many rows it includes.
May 31, 2020 Extended the games table on engine pages to span the whole width instead of just being limited to 820px.
May 23, 2020 Added "Dongle" DRM type to {{Availability/row}}. Very rare for gaming but some do exist (e.g. DJMax Trilogy).
May 18, 2020 Made {{Introduction}} section live.
