GRID Autosport is a singleplayer and multiplayer racing game developed and published by Codemasters. It is part of the GRID sub-series of the TOCA video game series.

The game has a limited crossplay function that allows owners of any of the PC versions to compete in online multiplayer. PC versions don't allow crossplay with the console versions of the game.

It was released on June 27, 2014. The MacOS and Linux versions, ported by Feral Interactive, were released on December 10, 2015.

It has an active modding community as the game is easily moddable. It has a major software conflict with Steam's Cloud service in which the save file can be corrupted. It's recommended to disable Steam Cloud before playing the game. (See Corrupt Save Game.)

It was delisted from all digital storefronts on July 1, 2020.

Essential improvements

Skip intro videos

Remove video files[citation needed]
  1. Go to <path-to-game>\Video on Windows or <path-to-game>/share/data/video on OS X and Linux.
  2. Delete or rename intel_sting.bk2 and sting.bk2.

EVERGRID's Patch

A ready-to-use patch that fixes blurry distant textures, unlocks Intel exclusive features and allows for downsampling. Online friendly.
Made specifically to address known issues on this page, without having to edit configuration files manually.
Download and install the patch
  1. Download the archive here (Nexus Mods). Animated comparisons are available on the mod's page for better clarity.
  2. Extract the content in <path-to-game>.
  3. Launch the game, go to Graphics setting and set the general preset to Ultra. This step is required, otherwise some settings will be marked as "Custom" and the game will not allow them to be changed otherwise.
  4. Set the graphics settings as preferred with improved Anistropic filtering, unlocked Intel's exclusive features and the ability to use downsampling.

Secondary screen

A secondary monitor can be used to show race statistics. Intel's WiDi is also supported.[1]
If using a multi-monitor resolution in-game, the secondary monitor can not be part of the spanned resolution.

Using mods

In most cases, Windows mods only need to be extracted into the game folder or the data folder. On OS X and Linux, the mod data should be extracted into <path-to-game>/share/data.

Configuration file(s) location

Linux $XDG_DATA_HOME/feral-interactive/GRID Autosport/preferences
$XDG_DATA_HOME/feral-interactive/GRID Autosport/VFS/User/AppData/Roaming/My Games/GRID Autosport/hardwaresettings/
This game follows the XDG Base Directory Specification on Linux.

Save game data location

System Location
Steam <Steam-folder>/userdata/<user-id>/255220/remote/
On Windows, replay data is stored in %PROGRAMDATA%\Codemasters\GRID Autosport\. Regardless of where the game is installed, it will attempt to use the %PROGRAMDATA% area to store the in-game replays. The game will work with a Windows NTFS junction point, allowing the folder to be mapped to alternate locations/drives.

Multi-monitor

Manually enable multi-monitor settings[citation needed]
  1. Go to the configuration files location.
  2. Open hardwaresettings/hardware_settings_config.xml.
  3. Set force to one of the following, with p meaning portrait:
3x1, 5x1, 3x2, 3x1p, 5x1p, 3x2p

Input

The game can send telemetry data to supported software like SimHub and devices like motion platforms, bass shakers and telemetry displays through the UDP protocol. Also support D-Box haptic/motion platforms through a proprietary protocol.[2] Requires editing the hardware_settings_config.xml file to enable them.

Controller support

The developer had provided a list of supported racing wheels, with an additional racing wheel added in a later update. Linux and MacOS version has their own separated lists. Devices not listed may work, but the user will have to manually map each action.
Devices listed with Italics denotes unofficial support and are found in the devicesetup.xml file, xml files located in <path-to-game>\input as well as support through compatibility mode on the wheels/wheel bases.

Issues unresolved

Corrupt save game

Although officially declared as resolved, some users are still reporting issues with save game corruption.
Some have reported that disabling Steam Cloud can help.
Disable Steam Cloud[citation needed]

Issues fixed

Distant textures are blurry

In-game Anisotropic Filtering is variable, with a minimum of 4x and maximum on 16x on Ultra, leading to blurry distant textures.
See EVERGRID's Patch.

The patched Ultra setting provides proper 16x filtering on every texture.

Stuttering

Might not work for everyone[citation needed]
