Need for Speed Payback is a singleplayer and multiplayer open world racing game developed by Ghost Games and published by Electronic Arts. It is the twenty-third entry in the Need for Speed series.
Payback takes place in the fictional Fortune Valley and features a 24-hour day-night cycle. The game's singleplayer story mode focuses on Tyler "Ty" Morgan and his crew as they bring down the cartel known as the House and exact revenge against Lina who double-crossed Ty's crew six months prior. Unlike the previous game, the singleplayer story mode does not require constant online connectivity.
It was released worldwide on November 10, 2017.

Mods
- While the modding community may be considerably smaller than its successor, Heat, Payback is moddable; there is a wide variety of mods ranging from gameplay enhancements to car modifications.
- All mods are available from NexusMods and require Frosty Mod Manager (some mods require the Beta version of Frosty).
- There is a tutorial on how to add your custom decals. While this is a Heat-centric guide, the author has mentioned it may work on Payback.
Payback has multiple mods that improve or change the game experience.
UNITE Payback
- Same Unite experience as with Heat.
- Adds many improvements to the game, including stance, handling, visual and gameplay improvements. It also overhauls the upgrade system.
- Extended stance and handling overhaul are separated from the main mod.
