Revision as of 20:03, 2 September 2021
This page is for the 2021 remaster of Quake. For the original version, see Quake.
Quake (2021) is a first-person shooter game in the Quake series. It is an enhanced version of Quake ported to the Kex Engine, featuring graphical and other updates, cross-platform online multiplayer, as well as a new expansion titled Dimension of the Machine.[2]
The enhanced version of Quake was released on August 19, 2021 and provided as a free update on Bethesda.net and Steam. It was also released on Microsoft Store and included with Xbox Game Pass.
Similarly to the 2020 Unity engine re-releases of Doom and Doom II, the enhanced version of Quake features free curated add-ons that can be downloaded through Bethesda.net with custom vanilla-capable mod support.[2]
Availability
- A Bethesda.net account is required to download curated add-ons and play online multiplayer.[2]
- GOG.com release was announced, but is not yet available.[5]

Issues fixed
Quiet music playback
- The music playback in Quake (2021) is quiet even when the music volume is set to maximum.
Use QEXPatch[14]
|
- Download QEXPatch here, then extract
qexpatch.exe to a convenient location on the computer.
- Drag and drop the Quake remaster's executable (e.g.
Quake_x64.exe ) over to the qexpatch.exe and it will remove the volume scaling. A backup of the original unpatched executable will also be created.
- Launch the game. The game's music should now be much more audible.
- A Linux binary can be compiled with the source by using
make in a terminal, then issuing qexpatch Quake_x64_steam.exe or drag & drop on the binary executable.

Issues unresolved
No online connectivity on Windows 7
- Attempting to play Online Multiplayer on Windows 7 may cause a "Lost connection to online services" error.[15]
The operating system version is below the minimum system requirement of Windows 10.
