{{Introduction
ii Re-release of Doom II: Hell on Earth, bringing with it official 60 FPS support and other changes.
+
|introduction      = DOOM II Enhanced is a game developed by id Software and Nerve Software and published by Bethesda Softworks. It is an updated version of the original 1994 Doom II: Hell on Earth that uses the Unity engine as a shell for the id Tech 1 engine.
 +

 +
|release history  = This game, as well as DOOM I Enhanced, was initially released in a suite of classic Doom ports for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, iOS, and Android, however, the ports were heavily criticized on launch due to their poor quality and inaccuracies compared to the previous console generation ports while implementing an always-online DRM that required the player to sign into a Bethesda.net account (meant to unlock Slayers Club rewards) to play the game, despite these ports not having any online multiplayer features. After the initial criticism of the ports, Nerve Software eventually rectified the issues of the intrusive log-in requirements and problems with the ports through patches. A PC version of DOOM II Enhanced was released through Bethesda.net on January 9, 2020, which was later re-released through Steam on September 3, 2020 and GOG.com on August 17, 2022 as a free update to existing owners of Doom II. It was later released through Epic Games Store on August 18, 2022.
 +

 +
|current state    = Nerve Software, with assistance from members of the Doom modding community, would later go onto improve the ports even further by introducing new features, such as official 60+ FPS gameplay, 16:9 widescreen presentation, and free downloadable add-ons with custom vanilla-compatible and DeHackEd WAD support for the mobile and PC versions, among other changes. As of August 18, 2022, all downloadable add-ons are available for both DOOM I Enhanced and DOOM II Enhanced.

DOOM II Enhanced is a sci-fi FPS game developed by id Software and Nerve Software and published by Bethesda Softworks. It is an updated version of the original 1994 Doom II: Hell on Earth that uses the Unity engine as a shell for the id Tech 1 engine.[2]

This game, as well as DOOM I Enhanced, was initially released in a suite of classic Doom ports for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, iOS, and Android, however, the ports were heavily criticized on launch due to their poor quality and inaccuracies compared to the previous console generation ports while implementing an always-online DRM that required the player to sign into a Bethesda.net account (meant to unlock Slayers Club rewards) to play the game, despite these ports not having any online multiplayer features.[3] After the initial criticism of the ports, Nerve Software eventually rectified the issues of the intrusive log-in requirements and problems with the ports through patches.[4] A PC version of DOOM II Enhanced was released through Bethesda.net on January 9, 2020, which was later re-released through Steam on September 3, 2020 and GOG.com on August 17, 2022 as a free update to existing owners of Doom II. It was later released through Epic Games Store on August 18, 2022.

Nerve Software, with assistance from members of the Doom modding community, would later go onto improve the ports even further by introducing new features, such as official 60+ FPS gameplay, 16:9 widescreen presentation, and free downloadable add-ons with custom vanilla-compatible and DeHackEd WAD support for the mobile and PC versions, among other changes.[5][6] As of August 18, 2022, all downloadable add-ons are available for both DOOM I Enhanced and DOOM II Enhanced.

Doom Widescreen Modding Assets

A collection of widescreen-friendly art assets drawn by Stephen "Scuba Steve" Browning (originally created from an unrelated widescreen project by Nash Muhandes) featured in the 2019 Unity re-release has been made available for personal use with compatible source ports.[19] The widescreen assets for Doom, Doom II, and Final Doom can be downloaded here. For the other Doom-related expansions not covered in the official download, see this Google Drive folder hosted by Stephen Browning.[20]

Restoring altered content in Doom II Enhanced

How to restore the original Wolfenstein 3D levels' content and red medical crosses:[21][22]
The secret Wolfenstein 3D levels in Doom II Enhanced are partially censored as the Nazi iconography and Adolf Hitler's appearance were altered and the second half of the sighted sound from the Wolfenstein SS enemy was partially redubbed, as well as the red medical crosses on recovery items were changed to green in Doom II Enhanced and many of its add-ons.[23] The following methods can restore them.

Method 1: Use the following patches

The new widescreen assets featured will be retained in Doom II Enhanced and its add-ons.
  1. Download and apply these patches to restore the original Wolfenstein 3D levels' content and red medical crosses.

Method 2: Replace Doom II Enhanced's IWAD with the original MS-DOS version's IWAD

The new widescreen assets will be reverted to their original 4:3 assets as a result and will not change any add-on WADs with similar alterations.
  1. Copy the original MS-DOS version of Doom II's DOOM2.WAD file found in <path-to-game>. See the 1994 version's article for common installation locations.
  2. Navigate to where Doom II Enhanced is installed and go into the <path-to-game>\DOOM II_Data\StreamingAssets folder, and then paste the original DOOM2.WAD into this folder, replacing the stock doom2.wad file.

Porting SIGIL's BucketHead soundtrack into Doom II Enhanced

"I’m on PC. Can I drop my own WAD files on the client to run them?
Actually...yes! Browse to your installation directory and put any WAD files into your Saved Games\id Software\DOOM Classic\WADs folder (or the equivalent folder for DOOM II) and they will be recognized in the Add-ons menu. Note that only WADs compatible with so-called vanilla-DOOM and DOOM II will function at this time.

Tested when locking the game to 30 FPS in the Vide settings on a 60 Hz display with V-sync enabled, which the game still ran at 60 FPS instead of 30 until disabling V-sync.

Basically the first connected XInput controller is always connected and used by "player one", aka the one with the keyboard and mouse. There does not seem to be a way to disable this and allow the XInput controller to be used by "player two", so at least two XInput controllers are required, or a controller of another type (e.g. DualShock 4).
