Free-to-grind definition: Could also be called 'free-to-grind'. The game's gameplay unlock rewards can be achieved or grinded for without payment, but payment unlocks those rewards faster or instantaneously. Pay-to-skip applies to nearly all free-to-play games, in addition to the other microtransaction categories.
Examples:
- League of Legends's playable characters can all be grinded for using in-game earnable Blue Essence currency, but players can skip this by purchasing the characters by purchasing Riot Points.[1]
- Apex Legends rewards like characters and cosmetics are all possible to achieve by grinding without paying. The most rare 'heirloom' rewards are guaranteed after opening 500 Apex Crates.
