Key points
- Based on the low-quality PlayStation 2 port rather than the superior GameCube version.[1]
- Poor keyboard controls and no mouse support; a controller is highly recommended.
- Frame rate is capped at 30 FPS.

Essential improvements
Patches
- The game originally shipped with heavily downgraded visuals compared to the console versions. Patch v1.1.0 drastically enhances graphics, lighting and VFXs, and also fixes crashes which would occur when trying to skip certain cutscenes. The patch for the European, German, and Russian releases can be found here. If you run into issues with patch failing to update mid-way through patching the game, try running the patch's executable as administrator.[2]

Mods
High-Res Cutscenes
- Greatly improves the resolution and quality of the cutscenes. Links can be found in the description of this video.
Enhanced Environment
- Cerberus84 from Mod DB has made texture pack which improves upon the default textures included with the game and can be downloaded from modDB.
ENBSeries
- The lighting/graphical patch greatly improves how the game looks.
- May decrease performance.
Resident Evil 4 MouseAim Patch
- The game lacks mouse support by default. This unofficial patch implements the ability to aim with the mouse. Can be downloaded here.
- May not work at all for some users.[4]
