Wine

Link to WineApp entry for latest version of the game.

Final Fantasy XIV A Realm Reborn can be successfully run under wine but even under the latest patch many people are reporting very poor performance or problems with getting the game to run. Some people have gotten the game to run flawlessly with patches and tweaks described on the WineApp database.

The most common problems are:

  • The launcher is not working properly, either resulting in a black screen, crash or no login.
  • The updater is not working and the game needs to be updated from Windows to be able to run.
  • The game UI flickers.
  • The game has very poor frames per second performance.

Increase performance

D3D command stream patches

Better performance has been reported with this patch. For more information see message by Stefan Dösinger: here.

glBufferSubdata patch

Snip from WineApp:

You can increase performance by applying the glBufferSubdata patch, which avoids driver sync by not calling glMapBuffer. Use this in combination with Nvidia's __GL_THREADED_OPTIMIZATIONS=1 environment variable to get smooth performance.

UI flicker

One way to get rid of the UI flicker that seems to work for many is to change the gamma in the graphics options from anything but the default.

Other

  • The wine override msxml3 isn't always listed over at the WineApp database but is sometimes required to get some of the other overrides to install properly in some cases.
  • When making a wineprefix for FFXIV: ARR it is strongly recommended to create a Win32 prefix.
  • The EULA agreement can cause problems when running the launcher, this step can be skipped by changing the entry of an line in the FFXIV_BOOT.cfg, normally located at My Documents/My Games/FINAL FANTASY XIV - A Realm Reborn.
