- The game uses a fixed path for its data instead of using the standard Windows variables, if the
C:
drive is missing or there isn't a Documents
folder under the user folder, the game will not be able to save and will crash.[4] This also means that Steam Cloud won't work correctly if the Documents folder of the user is in a drive other than C:
(Steam Cloud will sync the savegame in the correct drive, but the game will ignore this save and create a new one in the C:
drive instead).[5] Possible workarounds include manually creating an empty Documents
folder or using symbolic linking. Symbolic linking allows one to keep Steam Cloud working while also having the user folder in a drive other than C:
.

Notes |
Steam Cloud |
|
Approx. 954 MB available. Settings will sync too, except graphics settings. Steam Cloud will not sync any files if the system doesn't have a C: drive.[6] Also, if there is a C: drive but your Documents folder has been moved to a different drive (for example, D:), Steam Cloud will sync the folder in the correct drive, but the game will insist on saving and loading from the C: drive, meaning that Steam Cloud will still not work. Your Documents folder needs to be in the C: drive in order for Steam Cloud to work. |
Video
- Game is limited to 800x600, 1280x720, 1366x768, 1680x1050 and 1920x1080 only. Aspect ratios other than 16:9 are anamorphic.
Set custom resolution[8]
|
- Download MGROverride.
- Enter your desired resolution into the tool and press "Patch".
- Close the tool. You do not need to reopen it unless you wish to unpatch or change to another resolution.
- Select the 800x600 resolution in game to enable your custom resolution.
Notes
- Can cause minor graphical glitches, especially with the HUD.
- You must manually select the 800x600 resolution each time the game launches. This is because the game tries to autodetect the correct resolution for your monitor on launch.
- Can make Left Stick QTEs impossible to complete.

Issues fixed
Crash on launch (Windows)
- Even when the correct drive is present, the game might still crash from ntdll.dll as a faulty module
- The game uses a fixed path for its data instead of using the standard Windows variables, if the
C:
drive is missing the game will not be able to save and will crash.
Create a new C: drive[13][14]
|
Notes
- If needed a USB stick can also be plugged in and set to the appropriate letter instead.
|
Run the game at screen refresh rate
- Fullscreen mode may default the display's refresh rate to 24 Hz or 60 Hz, especially for users using HDMI cables.[15]
Override refresh rate with D3Dx[16]
|
- Download D3Dx by Chiri.
- Copy
d3d9.dll and d3dx.ini to <path-to-game> .
- Open
d3dx.ini .
- Change
refresh_rate=60 to desired refresh rate; e.g. refresh_rate=120 .
|
Set screen refresh rate with Special K[17]
|
- Install Special K by following the Special K Unofficial Guide.
- Start the game once and close it to allow the configuration file of Special K to be created.
- Open
<path-to-game>\d3d9.ini or %USERPROFILE%\Documents\My Mods\SpecialK\Profiles\METAL GEAR RISING REVENGEANCE.exe\SpecialK.ini depending on the installation method you used.
- Change
RefreshRate=-1 to the proper value, e.g. RefreshRate=60 or use RefreshRate=0 for automatic detection.
- Change
EnableTextureMods=true to EnableTextureMods=false .
|
Use ForceFix
|
- Install recommended software and system updates, if for Windows 7, under Ideal Conditions from Steam Guide.
- Download version of ForceFix for your operating system from Steam Guide.
- Unpack the archive and launch ForceFix.
- For refresh rates above 60 Hz, set frequency under Custom tab and Apply.
Notes
- By default, the refresh rate in the game will go back to normal once you close the program. You can change it by unchecking Restore on Close option.
|
Disable fullscreen optimizations in Windows 10 and 11
|
- Right click the EXE file of the game, and click on
Properties .
- Click on the
Compatibility tab .
- Check
(disable) .
- Click on
OK .
|
Crashes when changing display mode to fullscreen (Linux)
- On some Proton / Linux configurations, changing display mode from windowed to fullscreen can cause a crash. This can be worked around by editing the graphics settings file directly.
Find and edit graphics settings file
|
- Locate the
GraphicOption file in game's configuration path.
- Open the file with a hex editor.
- Each configuration option takes 4 bytes, with the first byte of each 4 holding a configuration value. Fullscreen/windowed setting is seventh, so you want to edit the twenty-fifth byte, or byte at address 0x18 in hex.
- Set the byte at address 0x18 to 1 for windowed mode, and 0 for fullscreen mode.
