The Outer Worlds: Spacer's Choice Edition is a singleplayer first-person action, adventure, exploration, FPS, RPG and shooter game in the The Outer Worlds series. It is a remastered release of the 2019 original The Outer Worlds and its expansion packs. It utilizes Unreal Engine 4.
The original game was developed by Obsidian Entertainment, published by Private Division and released on Epic Games Store and Microsoft Store on October 25, 2019, followed by its release on GOG.com and Steam on October 23, 2020. On February 27, 2023, it was announced that an improved Spacer’s Choice Edition was being developed by Virtuos that would release on March 7, 2023 on all stores as a paid upgrade for all owners of the base game with all of its DLC and as a stand-alone game. The Spacer’s Choice Edition features higher resolution graphics, a dynamic weather system, overhauled lighting and environments, improved performance and load times, enhanced details on characters, an increased level cap, and much more.[2]
The Spacer’s Choice Edition was released with much critique regarding visual and performance related problems. The publisher released one update so far with more to follow to solve the reported issues.[3]

Issues unresolved
- The game suffers from regular stuttering. Happens also on subsequent runs of the same level, ruiling out shader compilation as the main cause. Seems to happen during traversal, making it likely that these stuttering issues are related to asset streaming/loading.[10]

Notes
- ↑ Unreal Engine 4 engine build: 4.27.2[1]
- ↑ 2.0 2.1 Notes regarding Steam Play (Linux) data:
- File/folder structure within this directory reflects the path(s) listed for Windows and/or Steam game data.
- Games with Steam Cloud support may also store data in
~/.steam/steam/userdata/<user-id>/1920490/
. - Use Wine's registry editor to access any Windows registry paths.
- The app ID (1920490) may differ in some cases.
- Treat backslashes as forward slashes.
- See the glossary page for details on Windows data paths.
- ↑ Original was built from the ground-up to be playable without color information.[9] Unknown if this is still the case with the newer warmer color tone and artistic changes.

- Checked with game version v1.1 with RTSS overlay's frametime graph and just overall observations of gameplay of the first level. See regular frame time spikes that are also quite noticeable as visible stutter. Tested with fully unlocked framerate as well as 30 FPS cap; the latter will cause the GPU and CPU to be heavily underutilized, this to rule out a CPU- or GPU-bottleneck causing this issue. It is thus inherent to the game itself and not a hardware limitation. Game installed on Samsung 990 Pro SSD with RTX 4090, 13700KF, 64 GB DDR5 RAM at max settings.

- Checked with RTSS overlay, displaying "D3D12" as the API being used by the game, thus used by default by the game.
