Essential improvements

Patches

  • Retail Patch (patch 112100) - this patch won't work with minimal installation of the game.[1]
Verifying version of the game[citation needed]
  1. To confirm if you need to install the patch open the Help file installed with The Fallen.
  2. Go to Start Menu/Programs/Deep Space Nine-The Fallen/Help
  3. The very last line shows the current build.
  4. If the build is "Build110800-d-US" or "Build110800-d-EU-sr" then you need to install the patch.

Peixoto's patch

Peixoto's patch forced resolution allows high resolution without shrinking the HUD\menus. Super sampling anti-aliasing is also possible. Works with the Opengl and Direct3D 7 renderers

It is recommended to install this patch after updating a game to version 112100 / retail patch.

Unreal Engine DirectX 11 Renderer

A fork of Kentie's Direct3D 10 renderer that adds more graphical features.
Run games at HD resolution.
Improved lighting.
Adds ambient occlusion, screen-space reflections and higher quality HDR post-processing.
Places a temporary watermark in the bottom right, and copies the developers PayPal link to your clipboard. Follow these instructions to disable the watermark and remove the PayPal link from being inserted into your clipboard.
Disable DirectX 11 renderer's PayPal watermark and disable the link from being copied into the clipboard.
  1. Open the developer console with ~/Tab .
  2. Use the preferences command to open the Advanced Options window
  3. In a new window open Rendering section.
  4. Open Direct3D 11 support section.
  5. Set SupportMETextEnabled to False.

Notes:

If the game crashes while attempting to access the Advanced Options, open <game>.ini (see configuration file(s) location) with text editor and modify SupportMETextEnabled in [D3D11Drv.D3D11RenderDevice] section, instead.
Remove low-poly shadows cast on characters models
By default the DX11 renderer enables ASSAO, which causes some ugly shadows to appear on character models.
  1. Open the developer console with ~/Tab .
  2. Use the preferences command to open the Advanced Options window
  3. Navigate to RenderingDirect3D 11 support
  4. Set ASSAO to False
  5. Close the Advanced Options window for the change to take effect

Demo Levels

Fusion Creative Design created 3 special levels for a demo version of the game. These levels were later on released as a free addon for the full game and can be downloaded here (Convergence for Windows V1.1).

Issues fixed

Freeze when loading data from CD

For some reason, even if a full version of a game is installed, some data are still being loaded from CD. This may result in a freeze when using physical compact disk, due to game waiting for a disk drive to spin the disk and load a data from it.

Fixing freezing using Windows registry[citation needed]
  1. Install a Full version of a game.
  2. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\The Collective Studios inc.\Deep Space Nine The Fallen\ds9thefallen
  3. Right click on installpath and click modify.
  4. Copy the data from it (it's going to be a path to a folder, where you've installed a game).
  5. Right click on CdPath and click modify.
  6. Replace its data with data you've copied from installpath.
Fixing freezing using virtual CD drive[citation needed]
  1. Install a game from a virtual CD drive.
  2. Run a game using an image in virtual CD drive.

Camera keeps spinning, when a Joystick is enabled

Lower joystick sensitivity[citation needed]
  1. Open a console by pressing ~.
  2. Type in: preferences.
  3. Open a Joystick tab.
  4. Lower both ScaleRUV and Scale XYZ values.

MSI Afterburner issues

Change the settings in RivaTuner[citation needed]

Depending on the setting, the overlay may not be shown, or the game may crash upon pressing the overlay button.

  1. After launching MSI Afterburner, open the RivaTunerStatisticsServer from the system tray.
  2. Add ds9.exe from <path-to-game>\system\ to the settings.
  3. Set "Application detection level" to "high" and Stealth mode to "ON".
