Key points
- Based on the low quality PlayStation 2 port rather than the superior GameCube version.[1]
- Poor keyboard controls and no mouse support; a controller is highly recommended.
- Frame rate is capped at 30 FPS.
Availability
Essential improvements
Patches
- The game originally shipped with heavily downgraded visuals compared to the console versions. Patch 1.1 drastically enhances graphics, lighting and VFXs, and also fixes crashes which would occur when trying to skip certain cutscenes.
Mods
Enhanced Environment
- Cerberus84 from Mod DB has made texture pack which improves upon the default textures included with the game and can be downloaded from modDB.
ENBSeries
- The lighting/graphical patch greatly improves how the game looks.
- May decrease performance.
Resident Evil 4 MouseAim Patch
- Adds Mouse Aim.

Remapping
- Gamepad and keyboard configuration settings can be found in
SetupTool.ini
. The mouse cannot be used in-game. - For Xbox 360 controllers / Wireless controllers for Windows, it is possible to use the triggers to ready the knife or weapon instead of LB (no. 5) and RB (no. 6).

These functions can allocate only a digital button. |

ReadyKnife=az+ |
ReadyWeapon=az- |
- Do the same for this section only for ReadyKnife and ReadyWeapon variables too; nothing else. "Foward" is not a typo. Ensure the original file contains this spelling mistake.

- The new remappings must be modified manually since
SetupTool.exe
will show[ NONE ]
for the trigger remapping, and left LB (5) and RB (6) available to whatever action function the player desires. - If you want to use LB & RB, assign their numbers to an only action manually in the
.ini
file, not usingSetupTool.exe
.
