Death end re;Quest 2 is a singleplayer third-person JRPG game developed by Idea Factory in conjunction with Compile Heart and published by Idea Factory International. The game is a sequel to Death end re;Quest and it uses OROCHI 4 as its engine.
Prior to the game release, it had been announced that the character designs have been slightly adjusted "to meet global standards". With characters from the first game being available in this game, publisher Idea Factory International decided to ask Steam players to participate in a poll to decide on whether to use the original character outfits from the Japanese PC version of re;Quest 1, or the more covered-up outfits from the PlayStation 4 version of re;Quest 2.[2] The result was that characters of the first game retain their original outfits in the PC version, while the new characters are the same as seen in the PlayStation 4 version. This does not apply to event cutscenes or movie cinematics due to "the development cost and time to include both costume versions not being feasible".[3][4]
The game was originally intended to launch August 25, 2020 alongside the PlayStation 4 version but the release has been advanced to August 18, 2020. The game is available on Steam.
As in the first game, resolutions between 1080p and 4K remain upscaled.

Raise the framerate cap to 240 FPS by hex editing[15][16]
|
- Go to
<path-to-game>\resource\bin\
- Open
DeathEndReQuest2.exe in a hex editor such as HxD.
- Search for
41 55 55 85 41 and replace with 41 71 1C 87 40 to modify the framerate cap for gameplay and VN sequences.
- Search for
41 55 55 05 42 and replace with 41 71 1C 87 40 to modify the framerate cap for the pause menu.
- When finding and replacing these hex values, make sure that the find/replace tools are using the "Hex-values" mode.
- Alternatively, the hex values can be changed to use a custom framerate cap by dividing 1000 by the desired framerate cap. For example, a 30 FPS cap hypothetically can be achieved by
1000 / 30 , then using HxD's replace tool's floating point number utility to find and replace the 16.66666603 and 33.33333206 values with 33.33333333 . These values can also be changed to 00.00000000 to disable the framerate cap entirely.
- Alternatively, this can be achieved and quickly experimented with in the game by using a Cheat Engine table.
- Modifying the framerate cap above 60 FPS can cause 2D UI elements, the pause menu, and character bustups to animate faster.
- Camera movement trails behind the player, and mouse smoothing/acceleration increases noticeably above 90 FPS.
- Character movement and cursor movement (When analyzing enemy weaknesses) in battles increases in speed above 60 FPS.
|
Input
- Using a mouse, holding down the right button is required for turning the camera during battle.

Issues unresolved
Performance issues
- Several reports indicate that performance issues are present, even on hardware that is within the listed system requirements.[19]
- Lowering the in-game graphics options may not result in significant performance improvement.
Issues fixed
Black screen on startup/Resolution limit lower than current resolution when using DPI Scaling
- The game crashes when high DPI scaling is being used.
- The game also limits resolution options based on the DPI Scaling settings set in Windows. For example, if a 3840x2160 resolution is being used, but DPI Scaling is set to 200%, the in-game resolution will be limited to 1920x1080.[20]
Instructions[21][22][23]
|
- Open the
<path-to-game>\resource\bin directory, right click DeathEndReQuest2.exe , and go into Properties .
- Open the
Compatibility tab, and go into Change high DPI settings .
- Enable
Override high DPI scaling behavior and have the dropdown box set to Application .
- Press the
OK button to exit out of the DPI properties, and then press Apply in the file properties to save changes.

Game not properly loading shaders
- Under certain circumstances on specific CPUs and GPUs, the game fails to load shaders correctly, becoming unplayable.[24] Fixed with a patch on September 25, 2020.[25]

- ↑ If using the same vertical resolution as the windowed resolution, the window will clamp to a different value. For example, when running 1920x1080 windowed mode on a 2560x1080 resolution, the window resolution will clamp to 1061x1080. This isn't prevalent in Borderless or Fullscreen mode.[11]
- ↑ The "Fullscreen" option is a borderless window that only works with the resolution corresponding to the vertical window resolution.[12]
