Maneater is a single-player action role-playing game where the player controls a shark through an open world (based on the Gulf Coast of the United States).[2] Maneater is developed and published by Tripwire Interactive and uses Unreal Engine 4 and Denuvo Anti-Tamper DRM.[1]
Originally conceived as an expansion pack for the competitive multiplayer game Depth,[3] Maneater was initially developed by Blindside Interactive and was set to be published by Tripwire.[4] It was eventually wholly acquired by Tripwire, who continued developing it in-house with support from Blindside and other partners.[5] Maneater was announced on June 11, 2018 by Tripwire's publishing division.[6]
The game was released on Epic Games Store on May 22, 2020. The PC version was exclusive to the Epic Games Launcher for one year after release.
As of May 23, 2020, Tripwire is investigating an issue causing some players to lose progress in the game.[7]
