The game is a sequel to Death end re;Quest and it uses OROCHI 4 as its engine. |
− | |release history = | + | |release history = Prior to the game release, it had been announced that the character designs have been slightly adjusted "to meet global standards". With characters from the first game being available in this game, publisher Idea Factory International decided to ask Steam players to participate in a poll to decide on whether to use the original character outfits from the Japanese PC version of re;Quest 1, or the more covered-up outfits from the PlayStation 4 version of re;Quest 2. The result was that characters of the first game retain their original outfits in the PC version, while the new characters are the same as seen in the PlayStation 4 version. This does not apply to event cutscenes or movie cinematics due to "the development cost and time to include both costume versions not being feasible".<ref>{{Refurl|url=https://nichegamer.com/2020/03/31/death-end-request-2-survey-asks-fans-if-they-want-uncensored-costumes-on-steam/|title=Death end re;Quest 2 Survey Asks Fans if they Want Uncensored Costumes on Steam|date=2020-08-19|snippet=However, we can only include the original designs or the new designs. + | ii When finding and replacing these hex values, make sure that the find/replace tools are using the "Hex-values" mode.
+ | ii Alternatively, the hex values can be changed to use a custom framerate cap by dividing 1000 by the desired framerate cap. For example, a 30 FPS cap hypothetically can be achieved by <code>1000 / 30</code>, then using HxD's replace tool's floating point number utility to find and replace the <code>16.66666603</code> and <code>33.33333206</code> values with <code>33.33333333</code>. These values can also be changed to <code>00.00000000</code> to disable the framerate cap entirely.
+ | ii Alternatively, this can be achieved and quickly experimented with in the game by using a Cheat Engine table.

Death end re;Quest 2 is a singleplayer third-person JRPG game developed by Idea Factory in conjunction with Compile Heart and published by Idea Factory International. The game is a sequel to Death end re;Quest and it uses OROCHI 4 as its engine.
Prior to the game release, it had been announced that the character designs have been slightly adjusted "to meet global standards". With characters from the first game being available in this game, publisher Idea Factory International decided to ask Steam players to participate in a poll to decide on whether to use the original character outfits from the Japanese PC version of re;Quest 1, or the more covered-up outfits from the PlayStation 4 version of re;Quest 2.[2] The result was that characters of the first game retain their original outfits in the PC version, while the new characters are the same as seen in the PlayStation 4 version. This does not apply to event cutscenes or movie cinematics due to "the development cost and time to include both costume versions not being feasible".[3][4]
The game was originally intended to launch August 25, 2020 alongside the PlayStation 4 version but the release has been advanced to August 18, 2020. The game is available on Steam.
As in the first game, resolutions between 1080p and 4K remain upscaled.

Issues unresolved
Performance issues
- Several reports indicate that performance issues are present, even on hardware that is within the listed system requirements.[19]
- Lowering the in-game graphics options may not result in significant performance improvement.
Issues fixed
Black screen on startup/Resolution limit lower than current resolution when using DPI Scaling
- The game crashes when high DPI scaling is being used.
- The game also limits resolution options based on the DPI Scaling settings set in Windows. For example, if a 3840x2160 resolution is being used, but DPI Scaling is set to 200%, the in-game resolution will be limited to 1920x1080.[20]

Game not properly loading shaders
- Under certain circumstances on specific CPUs and GPUs, the game fails to load shaders correctly, becoming unplayable.[24] Fixed with a patch on September 25, 2020.[25]

on Windows Vista and later (more details). - ↑ 2.0 2.1 Notes regarding Steam Play (Linux) data:
- File/folder structure within this directory reflects the path(s) listed for Windows and/or Steam game data.
- Games with Steam Cloud support may also store data in
~/.steam/steam/userdata/<user-id>/1266220/
. - Use Wine's registry editor to access any Windows registry paths.
- The app ID (1266220) may differ in some cases.
- Treat backslashes as forward slashes.
- See the glossary page for details on Windows data paths.

• 1280x720
• 1360x765
• 1366x768
• 1600x900
• 1920x1080
• 2560x1440
• 4K Native - ↑ If using the same vertical resolution as the windowed resolution, the window will clamp to a different value. For example, when running 1920x1080 windowed mode on a 2560x1080 resolution, the window resolution will clamp to 1061x1080. This isn't prevalent in Borderless or Fullscreen mode.[11]
- ↑ The "Fullscreen" option is a borderless window that only works with the resolution corresponding to the vertical window resolution.[12]
