Key points

Servers for Valve developed games were shut down in 2004 following the creation of Steam. Other servers were shut down over the following years with the last closing on November 1, 2008.[1][2]
Compared to GameSpy, alternatives for WON servers have been far more limited. NuWON had the most success with replacement servers for 21 games as of 2021 but the website and servers went offline in 2022.[3][4]

Essential improvements

Third-party software Description

NeoEE NeoEE has dedicated servers for Empire Earth and its expansion pack The Art of Conquest.
