Changing KeyboardMode to 2 ignores the settings in the in-game key configuration menu. However, Mode 2 allows direct binding to gameplay functions.

Edit gundead.ini[3]
  1. Go to <path-to-game>.
  2. Open gundead.ini.
  3. Underneath [Gamepad] change Player1PadID to 0 and Player2PadID to 2.
  4. Save the file

Notes

With these settings player 1 uses keyboard and player 2 gamepad.
0 disables gamepad, 1 is DirectInput and 2 is XInput.
