To clear save games from the game once Steam Cloud has been used you will need to remove the save files from the Steam Cloud folder as well. The Windows and OS X save files are compatible but have to be manually synced by removing all existing save files for the target platform and then copying the source files to the regular save file location.

Issues fixed

Be sure to check the knowledgebase if you haven't found the fix here.

Black screen after starting the game

This might happen when installing a bunch of mods because either the mods conflict with each other or the game takes too long to load.
Delete conflicting mods using Hotspot[5]
  1. Open Hotspot and select installed mods.
  2. Open Tools → Torchlight I → Check for conflicts (conflicting mods will have a warning sign)
  3. Disable all but one of the conflicting mods (in each category).
  4. If that doesn't work, disable all of the mods and then enable them a couple at a time.
Delete conflicting mods manually[5]
  1. Go to <path-to-game>\mods.
  2. Move the mods somewhere else then move them back a couple at a time.
Delete settings files[6]

Missing quest monster/item

Discard the quest, get the new one and/or restart the game[7][8]

No zoom functionality

Rebind the keys[9]

Invisible cursor (Windows)

Disable pointer trails[10]
  1. Go to Control Panel and choose Mouse controls.
  2. Under Pointer options, uncheck "Display pointer trails".

Linux-specific issues

Garbled font

Upgrade the kernel and/or reinstall fglrx-driver for AMD video cards[11]

Crash on Estherian Ruins Floor 12

Install libtxc-dxtm-s2tc0 in Synaptic Manager[12]

Crash on Tu'tara Caverns Floor 19

This usually happens on Intel Mesa integrated graphics cards.
These fixes will probably make particular textures glitchy.
Rename curse.dds[13]
  1. Extract curse.dds from pak.zip/media/particles/Textures/Trail/
(pak.zip is by default located in /usr/local/games/Torchlight)
  2. Rename curse.dds to "trail37.dds".
  3. Replace trail37.dds inside pak.zip.
Resize curse.dds with GIMP[14]
  1. Install the "gimp-dds" package from the Synaptic Package Manager.
  2. Open /media/particles/Textures/Trail/trail37.dds with GIMP inside pak.zip (in the installation folder).
  3. Resize the texture to 64x256 and export the file back into the archive.

Cursor displays with a black box and does not function (Humble Bundle Edition)

Use patched version of libsdl2[15]
  1. Download this alternate patched version of libsdl2.0.
  2. Extract it into <path-to-game>\lib64.

Game fails to launch on unsupported localizations

Run the game with the LC_ALL=C ./Torchlight.bin.x86_64 command[16][17]

Notes

  1. 1.0 1.1 File/folder structure within this directory reflects the path(s) listed for Windows and/or Steam game data (use Wine regedit to access Windows registry paths). Games with Steam Cloud support may store data in ~/.steam/steam/userdata/<user-id>/41500/ in addition to or instead of this directory. The app ID (41500) may differ in some cases. Treat backslashes as forward slashes. See the glossary page for details.
