Multi-monitor
Ultra-widescreen
It has a 2048 pixel resolution limit. Use the widescreen hack as a workaround.
4K Ultra HD
Set the game's resolution to anything below 4K resolution to avoid the black screen issue and force 4K using dgVoodoo 2.[2]
Field of view (FOV)
See Field of view (FOV).
Windowed

Borderless fullscreen windowed
Use GameCompanion.
Anisotropic filtering (AF)
See the glossary page for potential workarounds.
Anti-aliasing (AA)
Nvidia users can force SGSSAA in Nvidia Profile Inspector, see Anti-aliasing (AA).
Vertical sync (Vsync)
On by default, can be switched off through the GPU control panel.
60 FPS and 120+ FPS
High dynamic range display (HDR)
See the glossary page for potential alternatives.
Game defaults to an 800x600 resolution, changing it from within the game rather than the config might cause it to crash.

Widescreen resolution

Native widescreen support results in vertically stretched picture in fullscreen.
Enable widescreen without vertical distortion[3]
  1. Go to <path-to-game>\Configs
  2. Open DS.cfg
  3. Find [Windows_Config,/Types/Config]
  4. Add Graphics.DisplayAspectRatio=FullScreen4x3 underneath it.
  5. Set the file as read-only.
The game fails to run at any resolution wider than 2048 pixels (all you get is a black screen with piled up menu items even during gameplay).
If the config file and/or folder doesn't exist (e.g. Green Man Gaming version), create them. Then launch the game once and quit. Now all config files will be there.

Field of view (FOV)

Change the default value[citation needed]
  1. Go to <path-to-game>\Configs
  2. Open DS.cfg
  3. Find [Windows_Config,/Types/Config]
  4. Add Graphics.FOV=XX underneath it, where XX is your desired FOV (e.g. Graphics.FOV=90).
  5. Set the file as read-only.

Windowed

Enable windowed mode[citation needed]
  1. Go to <path-to-game>\Configs
  2. Open DS.cfg
  3. Find [Windows_Config,/Types/Config]
  4. Add Graphics.FullScreen=0 underneath it.
  5. Open Editor.cfg
  6. Find [MainGameWindowed,/Editor/WinRect]
  7. Set the SizeX and SizeY lines to the desired resolution.

Notes

The game fails to run at any resolution wider than 2048 pixels.

Anti-aliasing (AA)

SGSSAA (Nvidia only)[4]
  1. Download and run Nvidia Profile Inspector.
  2. Search for Dark Sector in the profiles list.
  3. Set Antialiasing - Behavior flags to None
  4. Set Antialiasing compatibility to 0x004000C0
  5. Set Antialiasing - Mode to Override any application setting
  6. Set Antialiasing - Setting to 2x/4x/8xQ Multisampling
  7. Set Antialiasing - Transparency supersampling to 2x/4x/8x Sparse Grid Supersampling (the level must match the previous setting).
  8. (Optional; Crisper, but can introduce aliasing) Set Texture filtering - LOD Bias to either -0.500 (if using 2x MSAA + 2x SGSSAA), -1.000 (if using 4x) or -1.500 (if using 8x).
  9. Click Apply to save the changes.

Note

Not supported in windowed mode.

  3. 3.0 3.1 File/folder structure within this directory reflects the path(s) listed for Windows and/or Steam game data (use Wine regedit to access Windows registry paths). Games with Steam Cloud support may store data in ~/.steam/steam/userdata/<user-id>/29900/ in addition to or instead of this directory. The app ID (29900) may differ in some cases. Treat backslashes as forward slashes. See the glossary page for details.
