Company of Heroes 3 is a singleplayer and multiplayer bird's-eye view and free-roaming camera RTS game and the third main entry in the Company of Heroes series. The game was developed by Relic Entertainment, published by SEGA and released on February 23, 2023. It uses Essence Engine 5.

Even though the game was released on consoles on May 30, 2023[1], the PC version does not include controller support.[2] Post-launch patches brought fixes for visual issues, stability, performance, crashes and many other bugs as well as audio overhauls, many balancing changes, challenges, cosmetics, currencies and more.[3]

Ray tracing (RT)
The game features a graphics benchmark option with a detailed end result screen to diagnose potential performance bottlenecks. However, the benchamrk shows a piece of real-time gameplay of CPU vs. CPU, resulting in every run being slightly different. This causes the result for every ran benchmark to be slightly different, causing the benchmarking feature to be potentially unreliable.[8]

Unlock desired Texture Quality settings

To use Ultra Texture Quality setting, a GPU with 16 GB or more VRAM is needed. High Texture Quality setting need 8 GB or more VRAM. Other Texture Quality settings are locked under different yet unknown VRAM amounts. If any of these requirements are not met, those respective options will be greyed-out as a menu option.[9][10]
Set desired Texture Quality manually in settings file[11]
Forcing higher texture quality than the game recommends can result in severe stutters/hitches and a decrease in performance when the game tries to use more VRAM than the system can provide.
  1. Edit %USERPROFILE%\Documents\my games\Company of Heroes 3\configuration_system.lua in a text editor.
  2. Find and change variantUInt value to 0 for Ultra, 1 for High, 2 for Medium, 3 for Low.

Plugging in an Xbox controller does nothing at boot. Some configuration files contain references to gamepad and gamepad UI scaling, but seems to have been just preparatory work for the Console Edition. No word if this controller UI will be included on PC at a later date.

  7. Verified by User:Mrtnptrs on 2023-02-28
Testing by forcing AF to x16 and off when running at either low or maximum settings and comparing captured images, it becomes very clear that at both lowest and max settings the game applies AF very well and actually very close to x16, so very likely x8. Very hard to test though due to changing some graphics settings requiring restarts and during benchmark-runs the lighting can change a bit. This all makes this conclusion less reliable.
  8. Verified by User:Mrtnptrs on 2023-02-20
In everyone the position of units, which units die, particle effects location, destruction etc. is everytime quite different between every run of the benchmarking feature.
