Key points

Reports from a beta version of the game indicate a bad PC port with poor optimization and essential PC features missing in addition to many more issues.[Note 1] Some of these features were set to be added or fixed by launch.[1]

Availability

All versions require the Bethesda.net Launcher DRM and a constant internet connection for all game modes.[2]

Field of view (FOV)

Modify Fallout76Custom.ini
  1. Go to the configuration file(s) location.
  2. Open Fallout76Custom.ini or create it if it does not exist.
  3. Under [Display] add or modify the following parameters:
fDefault1stPersonFOV=XX
fDefaultWorldFOV=XX

Notes

fDefault1stPersonFOV controls first person camera and PipBoy, fDefaultWorldFOV controls third person camera.
Modifying fDefault1stPersonFOV will also modify PipBoy's field of view which might be an undesirable side effect for some users. Fallout 76 features an optional Power Armor style menu that is less affected by this however, accessible via right clicking twice in the Pipboy menu.
Extreme FOV values may have additional negative effects such as flickering grass, broken lighting, or animation bugs.

Vertical sync (Vsync)

Modify Fallout76Prefs.ini
  1. Go to the configuration file(s) location.
  2. Open Fallout76Prefs.ini.
  3. Under [Display] change iPresentInterval to 0.

Notes

Disabling vertical sync will unlock framerate from 60 FPS, however the game also features a hard-coded 63 FPS limit preventing high framerate scenarios.

Disable Depth of Field

Modify Fallout76Custom.ini
  1. Go to the configuration file(s) location.
  2. Open Fallout76Custom.ini or create it if it does not exist.
  3. Add the following lines under [Display] to disable long distance terrain DOF
fDOFBlendRatio=0
fDOFMinFocalCoefDist=999999
fDOFMaxFocalCoefDist=99999999
fDOFDynamicFarRange=99999999
fDOFCenterWeightInt=0
fDOFFarDistance=99999999
  1. Add the following lines under [ImageSpace] to disable dynamic short distance DOF
bDynamicDepthOfField=0

Notes

Some of these commands are are new to the engine and require additional testing of their exact effects.

Disable Motion Blur

Modify Fallout76Prefs.ini
  1. Go to the configuration file(s) location.
  2. Open Fallout76Prefs.ini.
  3. Find the following line under [ImageSpace], and set it to this value.
bMBEnable=0

  2. Open Fallout76Custom.ini or create it if it does not exist.
  3. Add or modify the following lines under [Controls]:
fMouseHeadingXScale = 0.021
fMouseHeadingYScale = XX
  1. Where XX replace with:
  • .03738 for 16:9 resolutions
  • .042 for 21:9 resolutions
  • .028 for 4:3 resolutions
  • .0336 for 16:10 resolutions

Notes
