Key points

An unofficial freeware fan remake of the first three Streets of Rage games for the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive, featuring content from all three titles and regional variations along with new features, including some seen from the Master System/Game Gear ports and beta versions.
Includes a built-in editor that allows users to create their own custom games within the Streets of Rage Maker, however it must be unlocked in-game first to create and play custom games.
No longer available for download to due Sega's copyright takedown of the game, preventing any future updates and bugfixes.[1][2]

Availability[edit]

No longer available after the copyright takedown by Sega.

Game data[edit]

Configuration file(s) and save game data location location[edit]

System Location
Windows <path-to-game>\savegame\savegame.sor
Settings are tied to the save file.
If the player quits mid-game by closing the window or pressing F12, the game will create a savestate.sor file that will save their session at the beginning of the stage. This file is immediately deleted upon resuming progress.

Issues fixed[edit]

Retro-Bit Sega Genesis 6-Button USB Controller Z and C buttons not detected[edit]

This is caused by the fact the game does not recognize analog triggers, while the controller's XInput mode has its Z and C buttons mapped to the Xbox analog triggers.
The game may not work with this controllers DirectInput mode. Switch to XInput if necessary, then follow the instructions for the following fix.
This may be the case with other XInput-based controllers that lack real analog triggers.
Set the controller to XInput mode and use antimicro (or a similar program that allows mapping controller buttons to keyboard keypresses)[citation needed]
  1. Download and install antimicro
  2. If the controller isn't already in XInput mode, press and hold B+Start for 5 seconds to switch from DirectInput to XInput (The game may not recognize DirectInput signals from this controller)
  3. Set the game's controller settings to be 'Keyboard' and not 'Gamepad'.
  4. Run antimicro, and select the tab that corresponds to the correct controller. It will be identified in antimicro as "XInput Controller". If there are any problems, make sure there aren't any other XInput (Xbox/Xbox-like) controllers plugged in/activated, and make sure no other controller mapping software is running, including Steam Controller Support.
  5. Click "L Trigger" and "R Trigger", and click both the left and right [NO KEY] buttons to map it to the key that corresponds to the in-game keyboard key listed for the desired action.
  6. Make sure both the left and right [NO KEY] buttons are set to the same button; if they are not, the buttons will not work properly.
  7. Now, map the rest of the controller to the corresponding keyboard keys shown in the game's options menu.
  8. Save the configuration file.
  9. When not playing the game, disable the controller configuration by going to the notification area, right-clicking the antimicro icon, hovering over the controller and unchecking the Streets of Rage Remake configuration. Alternatively, close antimicro entirely.
  10. Optionally, to have antimicro automatically load the correct configuration whenever Streets of Rage Remake is launched, go to Options>Settings>Auto Profile, check 'Active', and click 'Add'. Under 'Window', press Application: 'Browse' and find 'SorR.exe' in the game's root directory. Name the profile accordingly, select the correct controller under 'Devices' and press OK.
