After adding King's Quest VII to ScummVM, highlight King's Quest VII and select Game Options... On the Audio tab, select Override global audio settings. Set the Text and speech option to Both for speech with subtitles, or Subtitles for subtitles without speech. Select OK to confirm.

Enable simultaneous in-game audio and subtitles^{[citation needed]}

Edit <path-to-game>\RESOURCE.CFG.
Add audioSize = 0K to the bottom of the file.
Save and close the file.
Run the game.
When shown the opening menu, choose to start a new game.
Save the game you just started.
Exit the game.
Edit <path-to-game>\RESOURCE.CFG again.
Remove audioSize = 0K from the file.
Save and close the file.

Notes

If you want subtitles without audio, follow the fix up to Step 3.
