Windowed

Force windowed mode[citation needed]
  1. Install ThirteenAG's fix.
  2. Create wndmode.ini in <path-to-game>.
  3. Start the game and exit.
  4. Edit wndmode.ini.
  5. Set UseForegroundControl=1 to prevent minimizing.
  6. Set Border=1 to enable the window border.

High frame rate

Increase FPS cap[3]
  1. Open Gun.exe with a hex editor such as HxD.
  2. Press Ctrl+F and set Datatype to Hex-values.
  3. Search for C705C83E6B001E000000 and 48536A1E5250, and replace the 1E part in both with
    • 3C for 60 FPS
    • 5A for 90 FPS
    • 78 for 120 FPS
    • 90 for 144 FPS
    • A5 for 165 FPS
    • F0 for 240 FPS
  4. Save the file.

Notes

At 60 FPS, the explosives have larger blast radius, causing portions of several missions to have softlocks if played on the Impossible difficulty. Switch to the 30 FPS exe for problematic parts of the game.
Higher framerates than 90 FPS haven't been tested yet.

The Steam version of the game has an unresolved crashing issue in modern systems.[4]

Not having the RivaTuner Statistic server running simultaneously might work for some users.

Notes

  1. SafeDisc retail DRM does not work on Windows 10[1] or Windows 11 and is disabled by default on Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 8.1 when the KB3086255 update is installed.[2]
  2. 2.0 2.1 File/folder structure within this directory reflects the path(s) listed for Windows and/or Steam game data (use Wine regedit to access Windows registry paths). Games with Steam Cloud support may store data in ~/.steam/steam/userdata/<user-id>/2610/ in addition to or instead of this directory. The app ID (2610) may differ in some cases. Treat backslashes as forward slashes. See the glossary page for details.
