- The unofficial patch used in digital releases is 4.0BB, available here and changelog here. It enables more than 500 units to be present on a map, allows more than one AI per person in mutliplayer games, and allows the Creon faction in multiplayer connections via DirectPlay.
- The latest unofficial patch is 4.1BB, available here and changelog here. It enables sound for hosts in multiplayer, disables command line arguments, increases player limit to 8 in multiplayer, and no longer uses the
ironplague.icdfile as its functionality was backported tokingdoms.icd.
