Game crashes when starting a new game

Game may hang when selecting "New game" in main menu; workaround available is to load a save file starting from the first autosave in the game.
Use different save file[3]
  1. Remove any existing save files you may have in the save game data location.
  2. Download save file.
  3. Copy 0x57d43868.sav and paste it in the save game data location.
  4. Start the game, choose "Load game" and select slot 10, or hit "Continue."

Unable to use abilities during combat with an Xbox Controller

Game may recognize the A button as the X button, making A button act as both "confirm" and "attack" outside of combat, and during combat the game doesn't allow selecting abilities properly.[4]
Enable Steam Controller support[5]
  1. If playing from Ubisoft Connect and not Steam, follow these steps.
    1. Open Steam and log in to your account.
    2. Click on Library from the Steam home screen.
    3. Click Add a Game.
    4. Hit Add a Non-Steam Game.
    5. Navigate to the .exe of the game, either in the list or by hitting Browse…
    6. Tick the box next to your game and click Add Selected Programs.
  2. To enable Steam Controller support, click on the Steam menu tab.
  3. Select Settings.
  4. Select Controller in the pop-up box.
  5. Click on the General Controller Settings box.
  6. Place a checkmark in the box for "Xbox Configuration Support".
  7. Run the game from the Steam client.

Black screen upon loading game

This problem occurs because the game could not catch your PC resolution automatically, the solution is to exit fullscreen upon starting and play in windowed mode.
Workaround[6]
  1. Start the game.
  2. Press Alt+↵ Enter at the black screen.
  3. Game should be windowed with display.
Alternative fix[citation needed]
  1. Go to the configuration file(s) location.
  2. Open state.cfg with Notepad++.
  3. Edit the height = and width = parameters to LOWER values than your current desktop settings.
  4. Save file; right-click on the file > Properties > Check "Read Only" and apply.
  5. Start the game.
