Manhunt Fixer

Fixes several issues on modern systems such as crashes, gate not opening, audio loops, AI issues and script issues.

Use Manhunt Fixer
  1. Download Manhunt Fixer.
  2. Extract the files from the downloaded ZIP-file to whatever location desired.
  3. Run the fixer.
  4. Click Autolocate Steam Version or manually search for the installation path of Manhunt.
  5. Check any enhancements you wish to apply to the game.
  6. Click on Patch.

  2. Delete or rename titles.bik.
  3. Download the empty video file.
  4. Put this empty video file in <path-to-game>\levels\GLOBAL\MPEG\.
  5. Rename it to titles.bik.

XInput-compatible controllers

XInput controllers have wrong mappings and are practically unusable
Use XInput Plus
  1. Download XInput Plus.
  2. Set the target program to manhunt.exe
  3. Go to "Sticks", and change the "Rect Correction" slider from "0" to "1".
  4. Go to "DirectInput" and check "Enable DirectInput Output."

  8. Press apply, this will install a DLL file in <path-to-game> (which will be automatically used when you start the game).

Notes

If Camera Y axis is inverted, go to "Sticks" to "Right Stick" and tick "Invert Y" option

Issues fixed

Crashing on modern operating systems / Gate won't open

On Windows Vista, 7, 8, 8.1, and 10, the game tends to crash unexpectedly and suffers from a glitch early on where a gate fails to open.
Use Manhunt Fixer

DirectX 8.1 Error

Install DirectPlay
The game requires DirectPlay (part of the DirectX API) to be installed. On Windows 8 and newer this isn't installed by default as it was deprecated by Microsoft.
  1. Go to Control Panel.
  2. Click on Programs.
  3. Click on Turn Windows features on and off
  4. Click on Legacy Components
  5. Check the box DirectPlay.
  6. Select OK.
  7. Once the installation of DirectPlay is done, restart the computer.

Glitched NPC's

On some machines, due to unknown causes, the games' frame rate limiter doesn't properly engage, which causes performance higher than 60 FPS. This can cause issues such as glitched AI where the AI just stands still or executes unexpected behavior. Make sure to only apply these fixes if suffering from this issue.
Cap the game to 60 FPS[5][6]
Preferred solution over using wrappers as it leaves the game's code untouched.

Use D3D8 wrapper

For Proton, apply the WINEDLLOVERRIDES="d3d8=n,b" %command% as a command line argument to get any of the below wrappers properly working.[7]
Apply ThirteenAG's custom D3D8 wrapper automatically by applying Manhunt Fixer[8]
Includes a custom D3D8 wrapper that translates API-calls of the game to D3D9, fixing the game's frame rate limiter.
Apply ThirteenAG's custom D3D8 wrapper manually[9]
Is a custom D3D8 wrapper that translates API-calls of the game to D3D9, fixing the game's frame rate limiter.
  1. Download ThirteenAG's D3D8 wrapper.
  2. Extract all contents of d3d8.zip (d3d8.dll and d3d8.ini) to <path-to-game>.
Use an alternative D3D8 to D3D9 wrapper: d3d8to9[10]
Different, but functionally the same, as the wrapper used in Manhunt Fixer.
  1. Download the latest version of d3d8to9 (the d3d8.dll file.)
  2. Place the file in <path-to-game>.

Certain sound effects and music loop

Asynchronous file reading behavior has changed since Windows XP, which Manhunt depended on, causing a bug in this game where sound effects and music can loop. Manhunt Audio Fix fixes this issue this by simulating the old Windows XP asynchronous file reading behavior while keeping the audio intact.[11]
For Proton, apply the WINEDLLOVERRIDES="dinput8=n,b" %command% as a command line argument to get this fix working.[12]
Apply Manhunt Audio fix automatically through Manhunt Fixer
Apply Manhunt Audio Fix manually[13]
  1. Download and extract Ultimate ASI Loader.
  2. Extract dinput8.dll to <path-to-game>.
  3. Download and extract Manhunt Audio Fix.
  4. Extract AudioFix.asi to <path-to-game>.
