Essential improvements
- In order for the game to play music, the Windows Media Source Filter must be re-installed on Windows Vista and above.
- Completely restores music playback
Install the Windows Media Source Filter[1]

- Download the Windows Media Source Filter Installer v1.7
- Extract the contents from the
.zip file into a folder.
- Right-click the
ApplyPatch.bat in the folder and click "Run as Administrator".
- Launch the game, go to "Configuration" and then uncheck the "No Music" box to enable music.
Notes
- If the text in the console window is red, then the
ApplyPatch.bat needs to be run as Administrator.
- Windows Defender may appear with a warning when running the file. Select "More info" and then "Run anyway"

Manual installation of the Windows Media Source Filter[1]

- Download the Windows Media Source Filter Installer v1.7
- Extract the contents from the
.zip file into a folder.
- Make a new folder in
%WINDIR%\SysWOW64\ called Windows-Media-Source-Filter
- Copy
drmclien.dll , strmdll.dll , dxmasf.dll and msadds32.ax from the .zip file to the Windows-Media-Source-Filter folder.
- Run
DSFMgr.exe as administrator and register the dxmasf.dll and msadds32.ax files.
- Launch the game, go to "Configuration" and then uncheck the "No Music" box to enable music.

Patches
Patch 1.4 is the latest patch available for the game, it adds new scenarios, options, and bug fixes.
- There is a bug that doesn't allow building rights to be activated in one of the tutorials; only present in version 1.4.
Patch 1.3 is the last officially released patch for the game. It generally tends to be more stable than version 1.4.

- Go to the installation folder.
- Open
config.cfg with Notepad or a different text editor.
- Change the lines with
SysSetup width and SysSetup height to the width and height the game should run in. For example: Setting SysSetup width 1920 and SysSetup height 1080 will run the game at 1920x1080 resolution.
- Save the file.
- Launch the game.

Issues fixed
Music skipping/looping issues on Windows XP and later
- The Windows Media Source Filter must be installed for this to have any effect or use.
- No system file modifications are necessary.
Install the qasf.dll [2]

- Download the DirectShow - Windows Media Source Filter Installer v1.7
- Extract the contents of the downloaded
.zip file into a folder.
- Copy the
qasf 6.03.dll from the .zip file, to the where the game is located at (<path-to-game>).
- Move the game from its original installation folder, or else the
qasf.dll won't load.
- The
qasf 6.03.dll that was copied to <path-to-game>, must be renamed to qasf.dll .
- Launch the game.

- The game MUST NOT be located where it was originally installed to (<path-to-game>), or else the right qasf.dll won't load.

Software mode graphics corruption
- Sets both Direct3D and software rendering modes to 16-bit color.
Reduce color mode to 16-bit; (65536) color

- Go to <path-to-game> and right-click
mc.exe
- Select the Compatibility tab.
- Under the Settings section, tick Reduced color mode.
- Select 16-bit (66536) color and click Apply.
- Launch the game normally, and make sure software mode is selected.
Notes
- If software mode is not being used, disable 16-bit color for 32-bit colors.

Issues unresolved
- There is a bug in version 1.4 with one of the tutorial levels "Building a Shopping Center" when trying to activate building rights.
- When changing stock while the game is running at 4x speed, the amount can change significantly quicker than normal. Be careful!
