upx.bat if exe size equals 1,008,640 bytes.
- Edit
mgs1w.ini to set the resolution.
For GOG.com version:[8]
- Download the widescreen fix by nemesis2000.
- Inside the game folder, create a new folder called scripts. Extract
mgs1w.dll and mgs1w.ini to the scripts folder and rename mgs1w.dll to mgs1w.asi .
- Download the 32-bit version of Ultimate ASI Loader by ThirteenAG.
- Extract
dinput8.dll to the installation directory and rename dinput8.dll to winmm.dll
- Edit the
mgs1w.ini file to change the resolution to the smallest possible resolution for the aspect ratio of your monitor (e.g. 720x480 for 16:9 monitors).
- Delete
mgsvideo.cfg and mgsvideo1.cfg from the installation directory.
- Download dgVoodoo 2 and extract it to a different location from the game.

MS\x86 folder to the game installation directory.
- Launch
dgVoodooCpl.exe as an administrator, click the add button, and select the game installation directory to create a profile.
- Select the DirectX tab, force your desired resolution, uncheck dgVoodoo Watermark, and adjust vSync/MSAA/texture filtering as you wish.
Notes
- Supported exe size: 2,883,584 bytes; 1,008,640 bytes; Supported VR-Disc exe size: 2,940,928 bytes; 1,013,248 bytes;
- Does not work properly in software rendering mode, and causes upscaling artifacts on some text.
- To get FMVs to work with Nemesis2000's Widescreen Fix (for those who are having them appear pink and green in the GOG.com version), use DXWnd. FMV screens will be smaller than other cutscenes, but they will look a lot better than before.
