Essential improvements
Game crashes on startup
- In order for the game to play music, the Windows Media Source Filter must be re-installed on newer versions of Windows
- Music is fully restored with this fix
Install the Windows Media Source Filter[5]
|
- Download the Windows Media Source Filter Installer v1.7
- Extract the contents from the
.zip file into a folder.
- Right-click the
ApplyPatch.bat and run it as Administrator.
- Copy
strmdll.dll and drmclien.dll into the game's installation folder.
- Make sure to use an un-patched version of the original
.exe for the music to work in the game. (or at least one that works).
- Launch the game.
Notes
- If the text in the console window is red, then you need to run the
ApplyPatch.bat as Administrator
- Windows Defender may appear with a warning when running the file. Select "More info" and then "Run anyway"
|

Issues fixed
Music skipping/looping issues on Windows XP and later
- The Windows Media Source Filter must be installed for this to have any effect or use.
- No system file modifications are necessary.
Install the qasf.dll [5]
|
- Download the music fix: DirectShow - Windows Media Source Filter Installer v1.7
- Extract the contents of the downloaded
.zip file into a folder.
- Copy the
qasf 6.03.dll from the .zip file, to the where the game is located at (<path-to-game>).
- Move the game from its original installation folder. Or else the
qasf.dll won't load.
- The
qasf 6.03.dll that was copied to <path-to-game>, must be renamed to qasf.dll .
- Create a new
.txt file in <path-to-game>, then rename the file extension from .txt to fr2.exe.local .
- Launch the game.
Notes
- The game MUST NOT be located where it was originally installed to (<path-to-game>), or else the right qasf.dll won't load.
- File extensions must be visible in Windows' File Explorer, in order for the
.local file to be created.
- It is possible to avoid renaming the game folder by setting
DevOverrideEnable to a value of 1 in Image File Execution Options. This can be added with
reg add "HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution Options" /v DevOverrideEnable /t REG_DWORD /d 1 /f
in an admin command prompt. Reboot is required for it to take effect. This allows system-wide DLL redirection via .local files or folders.
