Video

All menu screens, including the graphics and audio settings screens, are unique for all factions; however, they all have exactly the same wording, format, and settings, so the difference is merely superficial.
Unlike its expansions, the setup utility and the in-game graphics settings for the base game, Earth 2150, has a hardware-accelerated sound section and lacks the ability to adjust the maximum zoom level, respectively.

Graphics feature State WSGF Notes
Widescreen resolution
Vert- gameplay, stretched GUI; requires workarounds if using a 16:9 aspect ratio.
Multi-monitor
Can specify which monitor to display the game on by using setup.exe.
Ultra-widescreen
4K Ultra HD
Use dgVoodoo 2 and Direct3D HAL adapter. Mouse cursor disappears if height is above 1800px, so a custom resolution of 2400x1800 is recommended.
Field of view (FOV)
Can adjust maximum camera zoom level in The Moon Project and Lost Souls.
Windowed

Borderless fullscreen windowed
See the glossary page for potential workarounds.
Anisotropic filtering (AF)

Anti-aliasing (AA)
See the glossary page for potential workarounds.
High-fidelity upscaling
See the glossary page for potential workarounds.
Vertical sync (Vsync)
Use MixSets.
60 FPS
Open console with the Enter key and type graphrate 60.
120+ FPS
Frame rate is capped at 20 FPS by default. Increasing the cap speeds up the game 2D animations, but all other game functions works correctly. Can be increased via Autoexec.con, an in-game console command, or MixSets.
High dynamic range display (HDR)

Windowed

Run the game in a window[6]
  • For Escape from the Blue Planet / The Moon Project (replace Earth 2150 with TheMoonProject if playing the latter):

    2. Change the value of AllowWindowedScreen to 1.
    3. Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Topware\Earth 2150\BaseGame\Graphics\Default.
    4. Set FullScreen to 0.
  • For Lost Souls:
    1. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Reality Pump\LostSouls\BaseGame\Graphics\Setup.
    2. Change the value of AllowWindowedScreen to 1.
    3. Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Reality Pump\LostSouls\BaseGame\Graphics\Default.
    4. Set FullScreen to 0.

Issues fixed

Game crashes when using Construction menu

If Earth 2150 or its expansions are set to a 16:9 resolution, the game will crash as soon as the Construction menu it opened in-game.
Use unofficial patches[7]
Switch to a non-16:9 resolution[6]
  1. Run setup.exe.
  2. From the list of resolutions, choose the desired resolution (for example, 1024x768x16 is a 1024x768 resolution at 16-bit color depth, while 1920x1200x32 is a 1920x1200 resolution at 32-bit color depth).
  3. Click OK.

Game appears on wrong monitor

If Earth 2150 or its expansions appears on the wrong monitor on a multi-monitor setup, the game needs to be explicitly set the monitor to use.
Specify which monitor to use using setup utility[6]
  1. Run setup.exe.
  2. From the list of rendering options on the right, choose one of the Direct3D HAL OpenGL options which specifies a display.
  3. Click OK.

Bugged mouse movement

The mouse movement may be very inaccurate, causing position jumps during the movement. The problem worsens at high framerate.[8]
Use MixSets
  1. Download and install MixSets.
  2. Make sure FixMouseMovement = 1 is set in MixSets.ini.

Software rendering

Use software rendering[6]
  1. Go to one of the following locations based on the version of the game:
    Earth 2150: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Topware\Earth 2150\BaseGame\Graphics\Enumeration
    The Moon Project: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Topware\TheMoonProject\BaseGame\Graphics\Enumeration
    Lost Souls: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Reality Pump\LostSouls\BaseGame\Graphics\Enumeration.
  2. Set Software to 1.
  3. Run setup.exe.
  4. From the list of renderers on the right, select "RGB Emulation".
  5. From the list of resolutions, choose any resolution between 640x480 and 800x600. Bit depth does not matter.
  6. Click OK.

Notes

Inferior to other renderers.

Notes

  1. SafeDisc retail DRM does not work on Windows 10[3] or Windows 11 and is disabled by default on Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 8.1 when the KB3086255 update is installed.[4]
  2. 2.0 2.1 When running this game without elevated privileges (Run as administrator option), write operations against a location below %PROGRAMFILES%, %PROGRAMDATA%, or %WINDIR% might be redirected to %LOCALAPPDATA%\VirtualStore on Windows Vista and later (more details).
