Shortly after release, a placeholder asset with unintended political connotations left in the release version of the game led to heavy criticism from Chinese audiences before it was delisted from Steam China on February 23, 2019.[3] Red Candle Games issued an official apology for their "awfully unprofessional mistake" and delisted the game internationally on February 25, 2019 citing technical issues.[4]
Red Candle Games offered a Taiwan-exclusive physical Limited Edition of Devotion in June 2020[5] and organized a worldwide digital release via GOG.com on December 18, 2020. This deal was announced and cancelled on December 16, 2020.[6][7]
