Despite being sold as "DRM-free", online activation is used whenever the game is able to contact the metaserver, and an algorithm check is performed even if the metaserver is unreachable. Using a bad CD-key blocks the game, and using a demo key restricts certain features, even in singleplayer games. If the metaserver is unreachable, multiplayer is only possible by manually specifying the server IP. | |
