Source ports
Since the release of the engine's source code, various source ports have been released. See the link above for more information on id Tech 1 source ports.
- Most Doom/id Tech 1 source ports do not support Strife.
- Difficultly levels are bugged in ZDoom.[2][3] The source ports below are recommended instead.
Name | Description | |
---|---|---|
Chocolate Strife | Renderers available: Software. A source port based on Chocolate Doom that aims to accurately reproduce the experience of playing the original DOS version Strife. Renders at a low-resolution of 320x200 (automatically upscaled on higher resolution displays) and purposefully keeps the original game's limits. Strictly vanilla faithful; consider using Crispy Strife for quality of life and mod compatibility enhancements. |
|
Crispy Strife | Renderers available: Software. A limit-rising and double-resolution (640x400) off-shoot of Chocolate Strife with visual and gameplay enhancements while remaining compatible with vanilla and Chocolate Strife features. Highly vanilla faithful, but more mod-compatible than Chocolate Strife. |
|
Strife: The Order Edition | Renderers available: OpenGL, Software. An enhanced source port derived from the source code release of Strife: Veteran Edition (itself based on Chocolate Strife) but with many additional optional features, including an OpenGL renderer with support for high-resolution, widescreen display, bloom, static lightmaps created through DLight, dynamic light sources, and more. Some features that were planned but were not completed in time for the original release in 1996 have been fully implemented, including a multiplayer "Capture the Chalice" game mode derived from Capture the Flag, dynamic objective markers on the automap, and a special HUD display for the mauler's torpedo mode. Many features exclusive to OpenGL hardware renderer.[4] |
