GTA SA Skipping intro videos

18
Blackbird (talkcontribs)

I'd say there is a little oversight. SilentPatch only skips EAX and nVidia logos like 3.0 exe did. The .mpg videos still play. Not sure about the -skip command, but I assume it's same thing.

Mirh (talkcontribs)

In my opinion that's already enough.
I mean, those were the unskippable logo, those that were really annoying. .mpg videos can just be skipped with a mouse click.

But it seems you don't have the same opinion.. and indeed Improved Fast Loader also allows to skip the otherwise always present copyright screen..
Can you think to it? (I mean, I'm so tired of the problems of those damn GTA games..)

Besides, are you the same Blackbird88 of the gtaforums?

Blackbird (talkcontribs)

I thought so, but the it says Skip intro videos so that may be confusing a bit. Indeed you can just spam any key to skip them. I already have my fingers trained.
Yep that's me. 60 FPS masterrace

I tried something. I wanted to simply give SP the informative icon but that wouldn't group it with the skip command. And I tested teh skip command on 1.01 exe and it skips the logos just as I expected

Mirh (talkcontribs)

Wait wait wait.
Excuse me, but your edit was way too complex for a page as big as GTA:SA one..
I mean, I know it may be stupid, but you almost need a degree to download every fix and a new section is overwhelming.
I hope what I did could be more.. "catchy" for the lazy eyes of the noob that may stumble on the page

So I had to explain two times the same thing to the same person .-. I hate hate hate this game. And really, try for real that thing with the car. I swear it's true

Blackbird (talkcontribs)

I wanted something like this, but then it needs to be mentioned ony fast loader skips everything.
Dude I am playing this game on PS3 too and the differences are negligible.

Mirh (talkcontribs)

Wait wait wait.. wtf? PS3?

We are talking of computers here

Blackbird (talkcontribs)

Yeah and PS2 version runs at 30 FPS too hence the limitation in the first place.

Mirh (talkcontribs)

The limitation is there in the first place because they always had PS2 framerate as target, true.

Anyway, how are you supposed to check different framerates with a Playstation 3?

Blackbird (talkcontribs)

You don't, because it's always locked at 30 FPS so it should be exactly same as turning on FL on PC :)

Mirh (talkcontribs)

So.. where did you play the game at ≥60FPS to claim that there are no problems with it?

Blackbird (talkcontribs)

On both PC and PS3?

Mirh (talkcontribs)

So.. I have the feeling you are comparing 60FPS (PC) with 30FPS (PS3)..I can't understand why you mentioned ps3 otherwise
Correct?

It's rather unorthodox imo..
It seems I'll have to make a video one day to show the difference

Blackbird (talkcontribs)

No I compare PC,PS3 30 FPS and PC 60 FPS. The differences are so minor it's not worth the trouble of running a slideshow that is 25-30 FPS.
I finished literally everything in the game so clearly it doesn't hinder progress. The way cars handle also isn't much different unless you are trying too hard to achieve "le R* vision", because devs are never wrong :)
Just FYI GTAIV has a problem when you have 60 FPS in last mission you can't pull up on a heli. Clearly everyone should force 30 FPS just for that one mission.
I say this is pointless we're never going to convince each other anyway :D

RaTcHeT302 (talkcontribs)

Just write that the Splash screens are skipped jesus.

Blackbird (talkcontribs)

Ha the thread got derailed long time ago into FPS debate lol

Mirh (talkcontribs)

Obviously in GTA4, that seems the only thing with weird behaviours (even though I can't really claim this since I hardly reach 40FPS)

But as I said, l o o k at how cars b r e a k almost instantly on high framerates in SA
Until you don't at least acknowledge this I'm not really sure we are even talking of the same thing. It's too blatant. :\

I'm quite sure we'll find a meeting point, soon or later

Blackbird (talkcontribs)

Yes they do, but they don't brake as quick to be even noticeable in regular gameplay unless you purposefuly do it over and over. You're just blowing the bugs out of proportions is all I'm saying. There isn't single thing that literally breaks the game.
Last post here before it gets out of hand :D

Mirh (talkcontribs)

Oh, that was what I wanted you to say.

Anyway, of course if the sum of the little problems is smaller than the annoyance of the fixed framerate, better for you to disable the later..

Than subjective tastes come into play and imo, queer car handling, slower swimming, mad drivers (I have the impression they drive fast as hell with FL off, but I'm not entirely sure), gravity/density is screwed (I don't know whatever else to explain Stowaway opening cutscene) and last but not least I remember cutscenes not even starting in VC with anything but capped fps

Ultimately, I almost fear I would ascribe an oddity for something that instead was never meant to be the game (e.g. too hard missions: am I indeed clumsy or is the game effectively bitching?)
Then you have 60FPS masterrace and all which is alone already a good enough point ;)

End I guess

GTA San Andreas frame limiter.

Shortcat (talkcontribs)

Well, there is even option in-game for unlimited fps, you consider this isn't even an option? I think one can beat the game with 60 fps lock. I did it even without limiter not knowing it causes bugs. And 30 is painful, yes (even 25 without patch which is still in beta and bugged).

Blackbird (talkcontribs)

It's definitely possible to beat the game with 60 FPS, because I did, but the Amphibious Assault mission is flatout impossible unless you don't mind losing a big chunk of health due to slow swimming causing you to drown. Also I did all schools with all gold medals with 60 FPS.

Mirh (talkcontribs)

I'm not stopping anyone from playing even at 200FPS, I beat myself half of the campaign without even knowing why something so amiss as a frame limiter was included.
Though (after hundreds of hours on the PS2 version) I always felt.. something was weird in the PC version. And I lost an entire week trying to find the right exes, the right versions.. without results

Now, after having read dozens of discussions on gtaforums, I realize everything revolves around the number of frames.
You may call it diving bug, driving school bug, airplane floating bug and so on... like if.. they weren't major *gamebreaking* problems

But this also means mad car drivers, moon-like physics (including dampened car breaks).. and list of messed up things just get longer.
So my question is.. really? You are willing to trade all this?

It's not like I'm one of those kiddies that believe to the "30 frame per second are more cinematic" fairy story...
but considering I played for tens of hours then with framerate capped at 25 (SilentPatch didn't exist) without, really, any issue -finally-.. I believe that's what should be endorsed.

RaTcHeT302 (talkcontribs)

Honestly some people simply might not care and even I personaly would rather play the game at 60 FPS instead of torturing myself with the 25 FPS cap, I honestly never really bothered playing with it activated considering the game simply becomes tedious to play, even if the physics clearly go a bit ape shit, sadly. It would probably be best not to force people into playing with the cap turned on, instead any issues should be pointed out.

HF should probably be set to true, even if it actualy sucks balls.

Mirh (talkcontribs)

As I said, who is forcing who?
I'd just like to point out the most fixed solution. (besides, I just needed 10 miuntes to get used to 25FPS cap. Considering now we have "proper" 30FPS cap.. I found this should be the fine point)
And clearly, common sense itself should be enough to figure out that if somebody really desire uncapped frames.. well, it just needs to disable frame limiter..
I think everybody would be able to understand that

Shortcat (talkcontribs)

But not everyone know that you can limit frame rate by use of external tools and that San Andreas doesn't use vsync. Why not offer another solution? Which, by the way, some people find the best one.

Mirh (talkcontribs)

First, please, never use vsync as a frame limiter. The only thing it can properly do is remove tearing.
Said this, I understand yours is a good point.

My personal theory is that people think problems are just limited to selected situations... while instead they are actually spread all over the game and the sum of every one of these little nuisances, is bigger, in the long time, than the immediately noticeable frame limit major annoyance, imo. I even did some tests.

I first tried to cap the game to 60 (with MSI afterburner).. but when I tried to go down (w/o thrust, just by gravitation) from one of the san fierro's hills... car was already rockingly nailed to the road. So I tried a much more conservative 35FPS limit and you know what? Yes, car went ahead this time.. but distance was already less than half (in comparison to normal cap) :\
Then I tried to measure the time needed to swim across 2 point and this time results were already more consistent: this ~17% increase in framerate lead to exactly a ~17% decrease in swimming speed (i.e. ~17% longer times).
Lastly, I tried to clock time needed for spontaneous emerging from a given underwater point and well, it didn't change (although as you know the more the frames the higher the effort required to dive downward)

So, in the end, I hope the little line I wrote will be the best compromise between our views

Garrett (talkcontribs)

Pages have mostly used the widescreen resolution section name for resolution changes, even when the game does have native widescreen support, with the exception of the special Glossary:Custom resolution workaround.

RaTcHeT302 (talkcontribs)

Mass effect 2 - Origin DLCs

AndreyKva (talkcontribs)

Dum diddy done.

%USERPROFILE% should always be preferred

2
JPulowski (talkcontribs)

Got it. Next time I'll use %USERPROFILE% but <user-id> description is kind of misleading, that is why I replaced them in the first place. Maybe other path options should be added to the template as well, what do you think?

Mirh (talkcontribs)

Well, description could be slightly clarified
But I think it would be unpractical to replace <user-id>, since it's already a nice approximation to refer to all those folders named "Your Windows username", "Your game username", "Your steam id"
