From PCGamingWiki, the wiki about fixing PC games

Retired moderator.

If it's crazy voodoo, I have probably seen it already.

After a decade spent 10x as much time fixing games, Windows or Linux™ than actually playing them, real life called.

  • Creative SBS 260
  • DeepCool Assassin III
  • Intel Core i5 9600K
  • Gigabyte Z390 GAMING X
  • EVGA GeForce RTX 2080 SUPER
  • LG 27GN850
  • Logitech G413
  • Patriot Viper Steel RGB PC4-28800 C20

Games fixer toolkit

MSI Afterburner for benchmarking and recording
Nvidia Profile Inspector/RadeonMod to play with graphics quirks
PresentMon to track the mysteries of the DWM (and input lag)
Process Monitor to log game I/O calls
API Monitor and Process Hacker for when you are truly banging your head
Ghidra (you can discover a lot even just by dumbly searching for strings)
Special K, the Swiss army knife of smoothing out any game
ThrottleStop for when (especially) laptops are too hot or too crippled
Universal Extractor for those archives where 7-zip just isn't enough
WinDbg to read dumps and debugging messages
WinMerge to compare files and folder

My wish list Comments: Links
Disable MassEffect1 mouse smoothing from UnrealScript Even if something is likely amiss in native code, certainly with the right reciprocal operations it should be possible to patch? [1] [2] [3] [4]
MassEffect1 AMD FX cpu bug What's the specific broken shader? Why is Bulldozer still off? [5] [6]
MassEffect2 Cerberus autologin Cerberus Daily News may be no more, but at least having the terminal display to open OOTB would be a nice touch [7]
Decode Steam cdkey hashes For when they are assholes over at EA [8]
Complete the sound tales saga Half a lifetime of research still wasn't enough to note down everything and clarify what happened after XP [9] [10]
