Note, however, that if you try to run any resolution wider than 1920 pixels (e.g. 2560x1440p), the game might not start. In this case, you will need to use a DirectX wrapper. See [[#Anisotropic_Filtering_.28AF.29.2C_Anti-aliasing_.28AA.29_and_Windowed|Anisotropic Filtering (AF), Anti-aliasing (AA) and Windowed]] for example.

Windowed

Force windowed or borderless fullscreen windowed using DxWnd
  1. Download and run DxWnd.
  2. Click on Edit, then Add.
  3. Set the name and executable path.
  4. Set the window position and size for windowed or Desktop for borderless fullscreen windowed.
  5. Click OK, then File and Save.
  6. Run the game from DxWnd.

Anisotropic Filtering (AF), Anti-aliasing (AA) and Windowed

Force Anti-aliasing, Anisotropic Filtering, Windowed mode and resolutions wider than 1920 pixels using dgVoodoo2
  1. Download the latest version of dgVoodoo 2 and extract the archive.
  2. Extract dgVoodooCpl.exe and the contents of the MS\x86 subfolder to <path-to-game>.
  3. Run dgVoodooCpl.exe. Click the [.\] button below the banner.
  4. On the general tab choose the desired screen mode: either windowed or full screen.
  5. Switch to DirectX tab.
  6. Increase the emulated VRAM size to 128 MB.
  7. Set Anisotropic Filtering and Antialiasing settings to your preference. Game seems to work fine with 8x MSAA and 16x AF.
  8. Leave the Resolution setting as "Unforced".
  9. Uncheck the 'dgVoodoo Watermark' if you don't want any watermarks present (useful for checking whether dgVoodoo2 was properly initialized by the game).
  10. Click 'OK' to save the settings and exit the dgVoodoo control panel.
  11. Run Setup.exe located in the <path-to-game> and select the appropriate resolution.

Widescreen Resolution

Widescreen patch

The game allows selecting widescreen resolution from the setup.exe utility, however the screen will be stretched. A patch is available to make the game display properly in 16:9, 16:10 or 21:9 aspect ratios.

  1. Download M: Alien Paranoia Widescreen Patch.
  2. Run M_Alien_Paranoia_Widescreen_Patch.exe.
  3. Select the desired resolution and press Enter.
  4. Navigate to <path-to-game> and open alien.exe to patch it.
  5. Close the patch and run the game as usual.

Note, however, that if you try to run any resolution wider than 1920 pixels (e.g. 2560x1440p), the game might not start. In this case, you will need to use a DirectX wrapper, such as dgVoodoo 2. See Anisotropic Filtering (AF), Anti-aliasing (AA) and Windowed for example.
