Doom (1993)
Doom is a first-person shooter released for the PC December 10, 1993 by id Software. The series had a sequel Doom II: Hell on Earth (1994), and three expansions, The Ultimate DOOM (1995), Master Levels for Doom II (1995), and Final DOOM (1996). In 2004 the franchise was rebooted with Doom 3. Since the source code was released in 1997 (and re-licensed under the GPL in 1999) an active community has emerged to update and maintain the game.

Since the release of the source code, several modified engines have emerged.

Content
A freely redistributable replacement of DOOM-like assets is available at Freedoom, forming a completely free and open source game. Art assets from the original game such as the levels, sounds, textures, etc, remain under copyright. They can be purchased from Steam or copied from an original game disk.

Field of Vision Fix (FOV)
Depending on your choice of engine, you can usually change the field of view with a console command, or even in the options. Try fov <1-179> or gr_fov <1-179>.
Multimonitor Support
ZDoom seeks to support multiple monitors out of the box since version 2.5.0. Widescreen Gaming Forum discusses multimonitor set ups with GZDoom.
Save Game Data
Folder Location
Where saves are stored depends on the engine used and which version.
Steam Cloud
Steam versions use the Steam Cloud to back up data.
System Requirements
The various engines have different requirements, but they are low enough that it shouldn't give you any problems.
Steam just lists "Minimum: A 100% Windows XP/Vista-compatible computer system" as the only requirement for their version.
