Key points

First versions require adapter to connect to PC. Later revisions allows to connect to PC via USB.
Lacks native XInput support, requiring the use of a XInput wrapper (see XInput wrappers) for games that do not support DirectInput or the controller natively.
The ᴍᴏᴅᴇ button has been replaced with two shoulder buttons: 𝐋, 𝐑.

Inputs

  • 2 × digital shoulder buttons: 𝐋, 𝐑
  • 7 × digital buttons: 𝐀, 𝐁, 𝐂, 𝐗, 𝗬, 𝐙, sᴛᴀʀᴛ
  • 4 × digital directional buttons (d-pad): , , ,

Controller variations

In North America and Europe however, a different, much bulkier controller was released to supposedly accommodate for the "bigger hands" of western consumers. This "MK-80100" control pad is functionally identical to its Japanese cousin, but is slightly larger and has a peculiar concave D-Pad.

Often addressed as Sega Multi Controller.
The Control Pad saw an "upgrade" in the form of the 3D Control Pad, built as a response to the Nintendo 64's analogue joystick.
The 3D Control Pad has an added analog stick, a flip to switch between analog and non-analog mode, and has analog shoulder buttons instead of regular ones.[1]

Inputs

  • 1 × analog stick
  • 2 × analog triggers: 𝐋, 𝐑
  • 7 × digital buttons: 𝐀, 𝐁, 𝐂, 𝐗, 𝗬, 𝐙, sᴛᴀʀᴛ
  • 4 × digital directional buttons (d-pad): , , ,

Fukkokuban Sega Saturn Control Pad

Fukkokuban Sega Saturn Control Pad is designed for use with personal computers, namely those which run Microsoft Windows or Mac OS X with USB ports.
They were released by Sega Logistics Service (SLS), Sega's Japanese hardware arm. They were released exclusively in Japan throughout 2004 in celebration of the Sega Saturn's 10th anniversary.
Sega's USB Control Pads contain 𝐀, 𝐁, 𝐂, 𝐗, 𝗬, 𝐙, 𝐋, 𝐑, sᴛᴀʀᴛ buttons, just like the Sega Saturn.
There are eight color variations - grey, white and black pads (with an identical color scheme to their Sega Saturn counterparts), "pure white", metallic blue, pink, white/orange, and "champagne gold". The "pure white" pad was bundled with the Mac OS X port of Puyo Pop Fever.[2]

Fukkokuban Sega Saturn Control Pad For 'PlayStation 2'

Fukkokuban Sega Saturn Control Pad For 'PlayStation 2' (復刻版セガサターンコントロールパッド For "PlayStation 2") control pads are a selection of control pads designed for use with the PlayStation 2. They were only released in Japan, and are based on the Sega Saturn Control Pad.[3]
Sega's PlayStation 2 Control Pads contain 𝐀, 𝐁, 𝐂, 𝐗, 𝗬, 𝐙, 𝐋, 𝐑, sᴛᴀʀᴛ buttons, just like the Sega Saturn, though have been modified slightly to also house a sᴇʟᴇᴄᴛ button and so that they fit in the PlayStation 2's controller ports. There are no analogue sticks, so therefore no L3 and R3 buttons.
There are many colour variations - black and white which share a similar colour scheme to the Sega Saturn, grey, purple and "snow white". The purple controllers were also bundled along with Capcom's Darkstalkers Collection.

PlaySEGA USB joypad

The PlaySEGA USB joypad variant of the Sega Saturn Control Pad with USB port which has been released in 2009.
PlaySEGA USB joypad contain 𝐀, 𝐁, 𝐂, 𝐗, 𝗬, 𝐙, 𝐋, 𝐑, sᴛᴀʀᴛ buttons, just like the Sega Saturn.

Use with PC platforms

Windows

XInput wrapping

Acting as native DirectInput controller, it's possible to use any of the generic wrappers. See the controller article for those.

Hardware

Mayflash SEGA Saturn Adapter

Direct Input (standard HID protocol) supports 2 controllers at the same time. Xinput (Xbox 360 protocol) supports one controller per individual adapter.
Directly compatible with PC. No driver needed, just plug and play.
Compatible with PS3 console.
Supports SEGA SATURN 3D Control Pad.

Bliss-Box Gamer-Pro

Directly compatible with PC. No driver needed, just plug and play.
A wide variety of controllers are fully supported right out of the box. See the Compatibility List.
Global Button Mapping - starting with 3.0 this layout has changed for modern gaming. The internal button mapping is set up so that buttons on different controllers match each other's layouts as closely as possible.
Adapter can update firmware and be used on PC, PS3 (up to 4 players), Xbox (single player only) or Switch (up to 4 players). Each controller port has its own firmware chip so multiple firmware versions can be used if desired. See more.
Allows to use special API to communicate with applications (eg. RetroArch). See API tool documentation.
A 12v power supply is completely optional and simply allows the HUB to be self-powered and supplies additional power for a stronger Playstation Force Feedabck effect only.
Adapter work on Windows, OSX, Linux, Raspberry Pi, most all Android device.
Hot Swap support. This feature makes it easy to switch between controllers in mid-game. If Auto Pause is enabled (default setup). The adapter will pause your game while you switch, and you can continue playing when you're ready. The new controller is detected automatically.
Auto Pause: when the adapter senses the controller has become unplugged, it presses the pause button.
Single-Player Mode, the adapter can be switched to Single-Player Mode. This will allow for some advance features like using the adapter on an Xbox with special firmware, or up-linking to other future Bliss-Box add-on accessories.
Native Support, adapter have the ability to allow communication from the emulated game directly to the controller and back with any of the supported controllers.
Do not natively support Xinput. It can do so however, with the use of 3rd party software (ie. x360ce or XOutput).
Hotkey: Pressing and holding sᴛᴀʀᴛ will trigger a Hotkey combo. You may configure this combo for a hot key in front-ends like RetroArch.

Steam

Can be recognized as Xbox 360 controller but after manual assignment. Controller cannot be found in Supported Controller Database, so Steam recognizes it as standard DirectInput device.

Steam Link compatibility

Works natively over Mayflash Saturn Controller Adapter.[4]
Joystick configuration is possible on Steam Link, but the button mapping menu is finicky, so it may require several tries.
Only one Gamepad works. May not work with some third-party controllers.
Works without any drivers on any operating system that supports Steam.
Can be used just to send input from a controller to a PC. Go into Streaming options, hit Y and disable video and audio streaming.
Won't work great unless you connect it to LAN or a low latency Wi-Fi.

Support In Games

Support for some controller features may be only available on certain systems. Refer to game-specific articles for details.

The controller's button positions and colors, and the amount of buttons, differ considerably from those of other Nintendo controllers. As such, the list below should be treated with some caution.
Please note, that this is only list for games that offer Nintendo button prompts.
Some may require use of Switch Pro Controller emulation. Refer to game-specific articles for details.
Nintendo layout do not display 𝐂 and 𝐙 buttons which have to be assigned to Switch's ZL and ZR buttons. XInput layout do not display 𝐙 buttons at all, offers LB and RB buttons.
