Field of view (FOV)
Windowed
Windowed mode works only if the resolution selected via the game launcher doesn't have the same Y resolution of the desktop one (e.g. using the same desktop resolution or something like 1440x1080 on a 1080p desktop resolution gives a crash on start).

This behavior can be fixed either by installing dgVoodoo 2 or by using the Borderless Window mode of the DDG Modernizer.

In any of those cases, the windowed mode of the game will show incorrect gamma presentation, making the game overly dark, so it's suggested to play in fullscreen.
Borderless fullscreen windowed
See Windowed.
Anisotropic filtering (AF)
The game forces 16x Anisotropic Filtering.
Anti-aliasing (AA)
The game doesn't support any native Anti-aliasing but MSAA can be injected via dgVoodoo 2.

MSAA will show some small artifacts on the HUD when used.

Alternatively the game can look more sharp by enhance the rendering resolution by either forcing an higher Display Resolution via dgVoodoo 2 or by using Nvidia DSR.
High-fidelity upscaling
See the glossary page for potential workarounds.
Vertical sync (Vsync)
The game makes use of a badly implemented Vsync that cause a lot of micro stuttering, see Frame Pacing fix
60 FPS
The game is capped at 30 FPS but can be unlocked to run at 60 FPS, see High frame rate.
120+ FPS

High frame rate

Enable 60 FPS
  1. Open Windows' Registry Editor.
  2. Navigate to the desired registry key, in this case HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\TAITO\電車でGO! FINAL, under the Computer category.
  3. Double click on the frameskip entry on the right side in order to edit it.
  4. Change the value from 1 to 0 and close the Registry Editor.

Notes

Due to a system language conflict on displaying Japanese characters, "電車でGO! FINAL" won't be probably shown in the registry path, a series of weird characters will be shown instead. This doesn't affect the functionality of the registry keys.
The games has serious frame pacing issues even after enabling 60 FPS support, see Frame Pacing fix.

Frame Pacing fix

Install dgVoodoo 2 for perfect.exe
  1. After installing dgVoodoo 2, select the DirectX tab of it and enable Force vSync.

Notes

The game runs on DirectX 8.1, see API.
It's suggested to run the game at a native 60 Hz resolution to have effective results.
