Bubsy Two-Fur is a game compilation developed by Piko Interactive and published by Retroism. It is a digital re-release of Bubsy in: Claws Encounters of the Furred Kind (1993) and its sequel Bubsy II (1994), running via SNES emulation.
After a successful Steam Greenlight campaign, Bubsy Two-Fur was released on December 17, 2015.[2] Upon release, the compilation was criticized for use of the Snes9x emulator, as it was used under permission from the original creators, but not from later contributors. In response, the compilation was updated to remove contributed emulator code.[3]
In May 2016, Bubsy Two-Fur was updated to replace the Snes9x-based emulator with another based on Mednafen, improving performance and fixing crashes with Bubsy II.[4][5] However, the update broke controller support, and neither credit nor source code were given for the Mednafen-based emulator, despite Mednafen being licensed under the GNU General Public License.[6][7]
Another update in September 2016 restored controller support and added local multiplayer support for Bubsy II.[8]
The SNES ROM files of both games are included in <path-to-game>
as bubsy_1
and bubsy_2
. These can be played regularly with any SNES emulator of choice; see SNES emulation.
