Blades of Exile is the fourth game in the Exile series and features editing tools that allow players to create their own scenarios in addition to the three that came with the game.
Blades of Exile was released in 1997 for Macintosh and 1998 for Windows, and was available as a shareware download that could be unlocked with a registration key or ordered as a CD-ROM. The full, registered version of the game for both Windows and Macintosh was later released as a free download on the developer's website. The game's source code was released on the developer's website in 2007.
It was remade as Blades of Avernum in 2004.
