Series talk:TrackMania

About this board

I planned to write at least a stub for every game of the series.. but really I go nuts when reading wikipedia page

I can't discern between actual publishers and distributors, release dates are almost infinite (even though italian wikipedia seems to specify a single exact day of the release, although I couldn't really check its accuracy)

As if that wasn't enough Nations and United has been renamed, even though we may even technically call the former as a demo of the later..

MobyGames seems to have a pretty comprehensive guide of all the games available in a series. It should help aid in the madness.

While I was editing one of the Trackmania pages I was supposed only to include US release dates and retailers.

Mirh (talkcontribs)

An US centric view really sucks imo.

Especially in this case where both developer and publisher are French

Anonymous (talkcontribs)

As I've said in my reply from December, earliest date is always correct.

And retailers are utterly irrelevant in every way. Publishers (the one's that actually had some involvement, say Activision with CoD, not Deep Silver with distribution/packaging of Broken Age) are the only ones that should be included (as has been stated multiple times).

I hope with the editing guide there will be less confusion about it.

Well, really just pick the earliest date.

As to the publishers, seeing as Ubisoft is their owner, I would just go with that. Though the box I have here (TrackMania Sunrise) doesn't have any publishers on it, just Nadeo and some distributor.

Mirh (talkcontribs)

Now Ubisoft is their owner.. but it wasn't the case before 2009, which is even why newer 3 games are so easier to document while the others aren't.

Anonymous (talkcontribs)

Yeah, I do believe they self-published in the past. However, we do list the current publisher, always.

Mirh (talkcontribs)

I always loved references to the past. I mean, for example in the first GTA game we mention DMA design, you click on it and surprise you have the actual name.

Moreover, I don't even think publishers are going to change during time.
Even for HL we still continue to list Sierra because technically they are still in charge of the retail release (Valve is liable for the digital downloads but I found wise to not mention again developer if it's even the publisher)

And indeed I just looked to tm sunrise... you can count on at least 8 publishers/distributors as of today (I really wouldn't know how to distinguish between the two cases though)

Anonymous (talkcontribs)

We list past and current publishers.

We don't ever list distributors
