Version differences
- The original release in 1990 for DOS. This version is almost identical to the earlier Apple II version from 1985 with some graphics differences.
- The Mac OS release in 1991. The graphics were overhauled and mouse support was added.
- The Oregon Trail Deluxe, released in 1992 for DOS. Identical to the Mac OS release. This version was re-released in 1996 as The Oregon Trail Classic Edition.
- Version 1.0, released in 1993 for Windows 3.1 and Mac OS. The graphics and music were improved and it now includes SVGA support.
- Version 1.2, released in 1996. Added compatibility for Windows 95.

Issues fixed
Running on 64-bit Windows
Version 1.2
The Oregon Trail uses a 16-bit installer and executable that is incompatible with 64-bit versions of Windows. The 1.2 release includes a 32-bit executable that can be run on 64-bit systems but the setup is still 16-bit. The easiest way to run this version on modern systems is to simply copy the OTWIN32 folder from the disc to your destination of choice.
