There are two versions, the North American version and European Director's Cut version. If the title screen lacks "Director's Cut" on it, it's the North American version. Both versions include the extra scenario Born from a Wish along with an extra UFO ending.
Released on 3 CD-ROMs.

Essential improvements

sh2proxy

Silent Hill 2 running at 1920x1080
Silent Hill 2 running at 1920x1080

A D3D8 wrapper for the European Director's Cut version which allows:

  • Custom resolutions and widescreen
  • Windowed and borderless windowed mode.
  • Fixes anti-aliasing and processor affinity.
  • Allows you to use a high resolution without slowing down transition speeds.

After installing sh2proxy, you can download this optional alternate executable which disables cut-scene letterboxing: http://ps2wide.net/other/sh2pc.7z

Modern Compatibility Fix

Allows higher resolutions and easier anti aliasing application (at the cost of some glitches). Only use this for the North American version.

Instructions
Selectable resolutions do not go up all the way to 4k, enabling GeDoSaTo or Nvidia DSR does not affect the list. Selecting a higher resolution than your monitor's crashes the game.
