Essential improvements

Skip intro videos

Replace intro video with empty file[1]
  1. Navigate to <path-to-game>\archives\.
  2. Rename, move or delete bumper_atvi.bk2.
  3. Create completely empty file called bumper_atvi.bk2.
    • Easiest way to achieve this is to right click on folder, select New and Textfile or saving empty textfile with windows notepad with fileformat All files (*.*).

Notes

If unsuccessful, make sure that file extension is correct. By default Windows hides known file extensions.

High frame rate

With high refresh rate monitors, windowed or borderless mode, game will cap the frame rates to values like 48 FPS on 144Hz monitors and 55 FPS for 165Hz monitors.[4] Only way to play at higher framerates is to use exclusive fullscreen mode, which enforces 60Hz.
If monitor has G-sync or Freesync enabled, this can introduce further issues, lowering games framerate down to as low as 15 FPS.[5]
Enable exclusive fullscreen mode to bypass any issues. See Special K to force a custom refresh rate higher than 60 Hz for fullscreen mode, which also allows the game to run at higher framerates.

Disable fur

Can increase the performance a lot.
Disable fur via Helix Mod[6]
  1. Download Crash Trilogy 3D Vision fix.
  2. Copy the files to the installation folder and press F6 to disable any fur.

Notes

Change the value of Fur in d3dx.ini to 1 to let the mod disable it automatically at startup.

Issues fixed

Run the game at screen refresh rate

Refresh rate is forced at 60 Hz in fullscreen mode.
See Special K to force a custom refresh rate higher than 60 Hz for fullscreen mode[7]

Restore native DualShock 4 V2 support

The game has native support for the DualShock 4 V1.
The game doesn't check for the DS4 V2 which has a different HWID.
Replace the DS4 V1's HWID
  1. Unpack CrashBandicootNSaneTrilogy.exe with Steamless.
  2. Open CrashBandicootNSaneTrilogy.exe with a hex editor such as HxD.
  3. Search for the text string 05C4.
  4. Replace it with 09CC.
  5. Save changes and launch the executable.
