Version differences

Originally released in 1987 in Europe, ported by Imagine Software. Then a second port was released in late 1988 in the US, ported by NovaLogic.

1987 European edition

This version only supports CGA graphics and PC Speaker sound. This version seems to be quite rare.

1988 American edition

This version supports CGA, EGA and Tandy graphics, and PC Speaker and Tandy sound. It also adds Mouse support.

Essential improvements

1987 European version PC speaker audio support

The PC Speaker sound of the original 1987 European release is highly dependent on the speed of the PC. It was meant to run on the original IBM XT and faster machines will play sound too fast.

Use DOSBox

Notes

In your dosbox config file, in the [cpu] section set cycles=240 to approximate the speed of an IBM XT.

1988 American version three-channel audio support

The 1988 American release of the game has support for three-channel audio, which require the audio hardware built into the Tandy 1000 computer. Other systems are limited to single-channel audio played through the PC speaker.
Use DOSBox

Notes

If DOSBox is configured to emulate a Tandy computer, the game detects and uses the emulated Tandy sound hardware for three-channel audio. This will simultaneously also force the game to run in 16 colour Tandy graphics mode.
