Essential improvements
Patches
The latest patch for the game can be downloaded from this web archive ( Wayback Machine ).
Note that there are two patches to download:
- Legochessupgr.zip contains an executable zip file that will attempt to unzip its contents to c:\windows\desktop. Since most modern versions of Windows don't have that directory, you'll need to change the destination directory to a place that exists on your computer. Once you've extracted those files, you have to run the actual patch executable (Upgrade206b_int.exe) from the destination.
- ChessCDFix.exe should only be applied AFTER Upgrade206b_int.

Running the game on 64-bit Windows
Although the game installer is 16-bit, the actual game is 32-bit. The only way to play it is to use an alternate installer:
Installing the game via alternate installer
Setting up the game with an alternate installer[citation needed]
|
- Somewhere on the computer (ex. the Desktop), create a new folder called "SETUP".
- Copy the contents of the Lego Chess CD and paste them into the folder that was created before.
- When everything has finished copying, go to
<Setup Folder> and delete the SETUP.EXE file.
- Download the generic 32-bit installer and add it to the folder.
- Run the installer and follow the on-screen instructions.
- Once the installer has finished, download the missing text file and add it to
<path-to-game> .
- Run the
Lego Chess.exe file to play the game.
